MAY 8: VENICE ON STRIKE

As a cultural worker, I am in solidarity with the cultural workers who have called the MAY 8 STRIKE to collectively say no to the genocide pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale. Today marks the first Biennale strike called since 1968, and at a larger scale than then. The artists and workers united for the liberation of Palestine!

I stand in solidarity with the signatories of ANGA’s demands and support their call to exclude Israel from the Venice Biennale.

The widening war we are witnessing did not appear overnight. It grows from years of normalizing Israel’s genocide in Gaza and its 78 year occupation of Palestine, allowing institutions to treat it as an exception.

Culture must not provide cover for genocide and the brutal imperial aggression being unleashed on Iran and Lebanon.

No genocide pavilion.
No artwashing in our name.

On January 30, we closed I’m Half Sick of Shadows, the solo exhibition by @davidelamontagna .

We were very happy to inaugurate the 10 documents space with this project, opening our first public research program around the theme of affection. In the exhibition, La Montagna explored intimacy as a fragile space where care, repetition, and emotional exposure coexist with tension and vulnerability.

‘Ugly on the cover of time’ by @jacopo__rinaldi , curated by @flaviapresti_

OPENING | Thursday 19 September, 6-9 PM

The exhibition presents an installation for Lateral, partly inspired by the cinematic imagery of Rainer Werner Fassbinder, director and playwright among the most representative of Neuer Deutscher Film. Jacopo Rinaldi’s research moves around the linguistic communication and those forms of representation and transcription that can be initiated by an image, when this is disconnected and removed from its context. What is now to be isolated and manipulated is the movement of RWF’s right hand, which, in the looped video of a 1978 interview projected on the left wall at the end of the room, becomes a centrifugal point of the viewer’s gaze, as well as the junction moment of the exhibition itself.

‘Ugly on the cover of time’ presenta un’installazione per Lateral, in parte ispirata dal linguaggio cinematografico di Rainer Werner Fassbinder, regista e drammaturgo tra i più importanti esponenti del Neuer Deutscher Film - Nuovo Cinema Tedesco. La ricerca di Jacopo Rinaldi si muove da tempo intorno alla comunicazione linguistica e a quelle forme di rappresentazione e alterazione del significato che si possono innescare a partire da un’immagine, quando questa viene slegata e allontanata dal proprio contesto. In questo caso, ad essere isolato e manipolato è stato il movimento della mano destra di RWF, che nel video in loop di un’intervista del 1978 proiettata sul muro sinistro in fondo alla sala, diventa punto centrifugo dello sguardo di chi osserva, nonché momento di raccordo della mostra stessa.

Herbarium - a chapter for Sztuka j Dokumentacja dedicated to biodiversity and universal gardens, inspired by the immersive and illusionistic frescoes on view at @museonazionaleromano

The general publication will feature fresh academic thought on the topic, and a visual cartography of the plants reimagined by contemporary artists.

Happy to welcome Vica Pacheco (Oaxaca, Mexico) who will present her work "Animacy or A Breath Manifest" @pradiauto . This will be the first live performance of the Mexican artist in Madrid. An improvised composition together with the vessel, a sound environment in constant formation.

With this show we will be celebrating the closing of the exhibition "Harp and Throat" as well as the first anniversary of @pradiauto 🤍 presenting a publication about the project. The publication is kindly made by @imprenta_sandelfin
