Split Hazel Basketry ✨

Beautifully shot by @wink.noam

This week has been a big week for this humble endangered craft…I wanted to show you the process behind the baskets I’ve been wittering on about all week.

So thrilled to have our Split Hazel Basketry Garden win a gold at RHS Badminton, ‘best construction’ and the ‘people’s choice award’ ✨🙌🏻

A Garden designed by @henrytpopelandscapedesign for me, and my work, inspired by the process of this endangered craft, the garden moves through the process, allows for a serene and shady spot to work in, and utilises all parts of the material, even down to the waste.

I am so beyond thrilled and proud and grateful ✨ thank you! And thank you for learning a bit more about this endangered craft, let’s keep it up 🤟🏻

A very quick hello from me 👋🏻

There’s quite a lot of people here all of a sudden, so I thought I best introduce myself…

There’s much more to me than I could fit into this carousel but you’ll get to know me better soon I’m sure ✨

Something you want to know? Pop a comment down there would ya?

Lots of love, thanks for all the sweetness 🤟🏻

September was NUTS
Just a few of the highlights from a crazy month of busyness! So much fun, so many great pals, so many lovely gatherings, a few work highlights included teaching 35 (?!) people to weave baskets for @wildtales.earth 🥲 exhibiting with my pals at Centrespace again with @connectionsthroughwood teaching teaching and more teaching…and I spent some quality time being a cool aunt which is the best thing in the whole world and I won’t hear otherwise ✨ scroll across for the reality of a month here there and everywhere, the chaos 🥴 in the workshop when I finally got home, plus a distraction from my neighbour Ben ✨ by @flohamer

The Split Hazel Basketry Garden 🌿

Better late than never. Here’s a look back at our show garden for the RHS Badminton Flower Show 2026, designed by Henry T. Pope and built by us on behalf of the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers.

Split hazel is one of the oldest crafts in the British countryside. Coppiced hazel is cleft by hand and woven into a material that’s both strong and beautiful. Working with basket maker Flo Hamer, we wanted to show it in a contemporary garden setting. We set it among warm joyful planting tones and a river feature, and we used paving setts and pennant stone reclaimed from local garden projects and repurposed structural concrete as an anchoring platform, the crushed brick and concrete all came from the old Bank of England site next to bristol bridge supplied by @fraterurbanquarry

We were proud to take home Best Construction for this one. Huge thanks to everyone who made it happen 🙏

Couldn’t think of a better way to welcome in autumn then crafting and singing and eating and loving with this gang, thanks @drostrewood for hosting us all at the woods, what a magical place, what a magical group and what a magical weekend ✨🤎 and I even managed to help a bunch of folk to make willow backpacks 🤎✨ by @flohamer

After tear up, it was onto the next! The bowl gathering! I taught a lovely prefest to this bunch of legends! Split hazel mini whiskets in a day ✨ what a cracking weekend it was, you can enjoy this small selection of footage from the various late night soggy antics, dodging the rain, and ceilidhing under a crowded tarp 🤎 no place I’d rather be, with some of my favourite weirdos 🤎 until next year ✨ by @flohamer

A summer of this…
Me and my silly little van have slept in many a field this summer, using its tiny rusty wing mirror to vaguely make myself presentable ✨
It has been a wild summer; hot and dry, emotional and difficult and expansive. I have had some incredible challenges and some huge ups (and downs) but this little van and I have still trucked on…to every gathering, festival, workshop, craft fair…I’ve worked so hard this summer and I’m immensely proud of what I have overcome and how I have grown and triumphed, I’m excited to be moving into autumn and slowing down (slightly) but for now I’m actually off to sleep in another field for a week…
Catch you on the other side 🤟🏻

Thank you @wink.noam for capturing these hilarious pictures of me in my natural habitat 😂 plus the end shot of me looking like a mental basket selling peasant 🧺 by @flohamer

One of the highlights of this summer was definitely this moment ✨ my brother and my new sister in law got married and I was honoured to be asked to officiate their handfasting ceremony ✨ of course I had to get some woven things into the wedding decor, and to fill some of my baskets with the confetti we had been drying for weeks ✨ you can add wedding planner, florist, chief of decor and officiant to my CV thanks 🙏🏻
It was the most perfect day, the sun shone and I’ve never seen these two so happy, I adore them and it was the greatest honour to be involved in their magical day ❤️

✨ I also had the best date to the wedding, my one true love and forever soulm8 @leni_inks ✨ by @flohamer
