POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
What if the goal wasn’t to just survive your period every month… but to finally understand it? 🌙

If you spend part of every month dealing with period pain, intense PMS, mood changes, anxiety, irritability, exhaustion or feeling like a completely different version of yourself, you deserve more than another list of things to try.

You deserve to get to the bottom of what’s happening in your cycle.

That’s why I created Heal Your Flow 🤎

Because menstrual wellness shouldn’t just be about learning how to cope with your symptoms.

It should be about understanding and managing them so they don’t control your life anymore.

If you’re ready to stop trying to figure your cycle out alone, DM me “HEAL” and tell me what you’ve been struggling with.

I’ll chat with you about what’s going on and whether Heal Your Flow or another next step makes the most sense for you 🤎 by @flowandbloom_

Thought it was probably time for a little reintroduction around here.

I’m Stef 🥰

A Women’s Health Registered Nurse with over a decade of experience, Certified Fertility Awareness Educator, and Womb & Fertility Massage Therapist.

My journey into women’s health actually started with my own cycle struggles.

Like many women, I spent years being dismissed, told my symptoms were “normal”, and offered only hormonal birth control or surgery without anyone stopping to ask why they were happening in the first place.

That experience completely changed the direction of my career.

Over the last decade, I’ve become incredibly passionate about helping women understand their bodies and feel empowered to take control of their health.

I believe healthcare should be about finding and addressing the root cause, not just managing symptoms.

Through education, lifestyle changes, testing, abdominal massage therapy, nutrition, supplements, medication when appropriate, and personalised support, there are often far more options available than women realise.

One thing you’ll hear me say often is:
Your period is your body’s report card.
Your symptoms are your body trying to communicate with you.
You just haven’t been taught how to listen yet.

I have a particular passion for supporting women with period pain, PMS, PMDD, hormonal mood changes and cycle-related symptoms because I know firsthand how life-changing it can be when you finally start getting answers.

You can work with me through 1:1 consultations online, visit me in my Gold Coast clinic space, join one of my programs, or attend one of my free masterclasses.

Whatever stage of the journey you’re on, I’d love to support you ❤️

Comment HEAVY and I’ll send you my period red flags checklist.

There is an actual number for a heavy period and almost nobody is ever given it.

It’s 80ml across the whole bleed. The average period is 30 to 40ml, so heavy is roughly double that. 80ml is about a third of a standard cup.

The first reaction to that is almost always that it sounds like nothing, which is the whole problem. The picture most of us carry around of what a heavy period looks like is far more dramatic than the actual definition, so we measure ourselves against that instead, decide we’re fine, and never think to mention it. Meanwhile we’re cancelling plans, doubling up, and getting up overnight to change.

Unsure if your period needs attention? Count yours against the last slide. Three or more and that is enough blood loss on its own to explain why you are exhausted every month.

Heavy bleeding can be common. It is not normal. There is always a reason for it, and it is almost never just how you are built.

Save this for your next bleed, and send it to the friend who has been told hers is fine for years.

Here’s an update 🤍

The other day I popped into @flowandbloom_ ‘s beautiful clinic and we chatted about my cycle, managing my endo symptoms and how to manage it overall going forward. I’ve really struggled to find a health professional post surgery who’s able to support me all round and has a wealth of knowledge on endo, so it feels like such a relief to have found this with her.

Stef made me feel comfortable and safe, and I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing her again! Thank you so much Stef🫶🏼 taken in Currumbin Valley by @flowandbloom_

If you’re wanting more support with your hormones, comment FLOW and I’ll send you the link to my free masterclass stop surviving your cycle

What period symptoms may be from too much estrogen:

Period pain
Bloating
Mood swings
Acne
Heavy bleeds
Sore boobs
And more…

It’s not that estrogen is bad, it’s that it needs to be in balance with progesterone for us to be feeling good.

One way we can support our body is with foods that help bring the estrogen out in our stool, as if our detox pathways aren’t working well enough it can be recirculated adding more fire to the flame 🔥

If you’re struggling with PMS symptoms then it may be possible that this is coming from low progesterone.

Progesterone is your calm, steadying hormone. It helps you sleep, settles your mood and supports the second half of your cycle. When it runs low you may feel sad, anxious, have spotting a few days before your period arrives, a short luteal phase, difficulty sleeping and mood swings.

The thing that most women don’t know if you have to ovulate and ovulate well to be able to get this nice boost of progesterone in your luteal phase. The corpus luteal which is the outer casing that releases the egg, is what starts making progesterone once you have ovulated. No ovulation, no corpus luteum, no progesterone. So a strong healthy foundation is the real foundation.

These foods do not force your progesterone to go up, but instead they give your body the tools and conditions to make it well.

Food is only part of the picture but it’s a beautiful place to start. While eating certain types of foods to ensure you’re getting the right vitamins and minerals is important, it’s also important to make sure you are eating enough for the energy it takes for these functions.

Save this to support your next luteal phase 🤎

Half of these were things I was doing while genuinely believing I was managing my pain well.

Waiting for the pain before doing anything.

Anti-inflammatories stop prostaglandins being made, they don’t clear the ones already there. Starting the day before bleeding or at the very first twinge is a different drug experience to starting at a 7 out of 10.

Taking paracetamol as pain relief.

It’s not an anti-inflammatory, so for prostaglandin-driven cramps it’s fighting the wrong fight. It has a place alongside, not instead.

A hot water bottle that goes cold.

Continuous low level heat is what matched ibuprofen in trials. A stick-on patch holds temperature for hours under your clothes. A bottle is warm for twenty minutes and then it’s a weight on your stomach.

Being constipated going into your period.

A full bowel sits directly against the uterus and the same prostaglandins are already cranking your gut. Magnesium and raw carrots leading into your period are most important.

Clenching your pelvic floor.

Chronic pain teaches those muscles to guard, and guarded muscle is ischaemic muscle, which hurts. Pelvic floor physio for period pain is still an emerging area and the early signal is good, and it’s one of the few things that treats the muscle rather than the message.

Alcohol the night before.

It’s a vasodilator, it disrupts the deep sleep you need for pain tolerance, and it dehydrates you into a worse headache on day one.

Comment CRAMPS and I’ll send you the timing protocol.

Send this to whoever is currently on the couch with a cold hot water bottle. by @flowandbloom_

You shouldn’t have to plan your life around your period symptoms.

Or keep wondering whether what you’re experiencing is “normal”.

These red flags deserve more than being brushed off. They deserve investigation, an explanation and support that makes sense for you.

That means understanding what could be behind your symptoms, alongside how you’re fuelling your body, sleeping and recovering.

For women who are ready to stop letting their cycle control their life, DM me HEAL so we can chat about what you’re experiencing and what support could be the right fit for you 🤍

Save this for your next appointment, and share it with a woman who needs to feel heard. by @flowandbloom_

So much of the cycle conversation focuses on what to eat and when. But the piece I see missing most often is knowing what each phase should actually feel like, and what’s a sign your body needs more support.

Mild bloating before your period? Normal. Symptoms so intense you dread that week every month? Not normal.

Feeling a little slower on day one of your period? Normal. Cramps that stop your day or bleeding through a pad every 1 to 2 hours? Not normal.

These symptoms are common, but common doesn’t mean normal. And it definitely doesn’t mean you just have to put up with them.

Swipe through for what’s happening in each phase, what it should feel like, the red flags worth paying attention to, and simple food and lifestyle ways to support your hormones.
