What makes an acquisition actually scalable?

In M&A, a “bolt-on” acquisition is one that can be added to an existing business and integrated into its operations. But as Drew Duval points out, that only works if the foundation is already there.

Standardized operations, the right technology, and data that can flow across the organization are what allow a new business to actually plug in and scale.

Without that foundation, an acquisition can add complexity instead of creating scale.
