The next resident of Flower Residency is Ricardo Diseño! Ricardo is an illustrator and designer whose editorial work has appeared in the New Yorker, the New York Times, and Chronicle Books, conjuring a noir Los Angeles that lives somewhere between memory and myth. Drawing on the romance of art deco heiresses, David Lynch atmospherics, and hazy seaside glamour, his pencil portraits and still lifes build a cast of characters who linger in the streets and drink martinis until sunrise. Ricardo brings a prolific, world-building practice to the residency, where he plans to produce a body of portraits and scenes that reimagine the city through his own existential, cinematic lens. Ellen Hanson (@ellenrhanson) explores the uneasy space between performance, spectatorship, and public unraveling. Drawing from celebrity culture, art history, and mass media, her work examines the systems of attention that shape contemporary life and the ways images become charged with psychological and cultural meaning.

Created during her time at Flower Residency (@flowerresidency) in Los Angeles, this new body of work examines the thin line between composure and collapse. Through layered imagery that moves between celebrity scandals, performance traditions, and public spectacle, Hanson investigates our fascination with moments of failure and the audiences that gather around them. Across the series, spectators become as important as the subjects themselves, blurring the boundary between those being watched and those doing the watching. by @flowerresidency
