There was a time I could not even imagine doing Mayūrāsana 🦚
I remember when this kind of shape felt so far away from me.
Not because I wasn't flexible enough.
Not because I wasn't strong enough.
But because I hadn't yet built the relationship with my body that would make it possible.

Practice changed that.
Slowly. Quietly. Repeatedly.
Somewhere between patience, practice and persistence,
the impossible became my body’s reality.

And perhaps that's one of the most beautiful things yoga teaches us:
You don't always know what you're capable of until you are willing to meet yourself consistently.
What feels impossible today might simply be something you haven't practiced yet. 🪷

Asana: Mayūrāsana (Peacock Pose) 🦚
Type: Arm Balance (Advance)
Primary demands:
• Wrist & hand: strong wrist extension + active finger pressure
• Elbow: approximately 90° flexion, with forearms supporting significant load
• Shoulder: stability with extension/adduction and controlled scapular positioning
• Core: strong anti-extension/anti-rotation control
• Spine: generally maintained relatively neutral/extended as the legs lift
• Hips/legs: active hip extension with strong quadriceps and gluteal engagement

⚠️ Contraindications / when to avoid this pose
• Wrist or hand injury, significant wrist pain or limited wrist extension
• Elbow injury, particularly with pain during loaded flexion
• Shoulder injury or inadequate shoulder stability
• Abdominal hernia
• Recent abdominal surgery
• Pregnancy because of substantial abdominal compression and the prone balancing position
• Active peptic ulcer or significant gastrointestinal condition, where strong abdominal pressure may be inappropriate
• Uncontrolled hypertension or significant cardiovascular disease. Obtain medical clearance before attempting
• Glaucoma or conditions where increased intra-abdominal/intrathoracic pressure is contraindicated or medical guidance is appropriate

A headstand is not just a physical pose, it's a journey! A journey which teaches you patience, consistency, and kindness!
Yoga reminds me: Patience isn't just a virtue, it's the path to progress. Embracing the slow, steady improvements in every practice. Helping me find my flow, one breath at a time. ✨

🤸‍♀️ Headstands can help with balance, focus, and circulation, but make sure to practice slowly and safely. Always listen to your body!

⚠️ Avoid if you have neck, shoulder, or spine injuries, high or low blood pressure, glaucoma, heart conditions, or osteoporosis. Pregnant women and children under 7 should also avoid this pose. Additionally, if you experience headaches, migraines, or vertigo, you should refrain from this asana.

🙏 Grateful for the small, steady improvements in my yoga practice, day by day.

You are shaped by more than what you put on your plate. 🌿

You’re shaped by what you repeatedly do.
By the people you allow close.
By the spaces you spend your time in.
By the way you speak to yourself when no one is listening.
By the energy you bring into the world.
By the values you choose to live by.
By the promises you keep, especially the ones you make to yourself.

Your life is built in these small, seemingly ordinary choices.

So, every once in a while, pause and ask yourself:
Is the life I’m creating aligned with the life I say I want?

Choose consciously. 🪷
Choose with love. ❤️
Choose wisely. ✨

Healing isn’t linear. It happens in waves.❤️‍🩹
And starting over isn’t a sign of failure.🪷
It’s an invitation to rediscover who you are.🧘‍♀️
Sometimes falling in love with your life isn’t about changing your life.
It’s about coming back to it.
Coming back to your body.
To the little things that make you feel alive.
To rest without guilt.
To movement that feels good.
To people who feel like home.
To being present enough to actually experience the life you’re living.
And sometimes, it’s about letting go of the version of you that was only surviving.
Maybe you don’t need a new life.
Maybe you just need to meet your life again; with a little more presence, gratitude and love.❤️‍🩹

You start yoga for flexibility🧑‍🩰
And somewhere along the way, you realise you were never just stretching your body🧘‍♀️

You’re learning to listen👂
To feel ✨
To regulate ⚖️
To soften without losing your strength 🧘‍♀️
To come home to yourself 🪷

The flexibility is just one part of the practice.
The real transformation happens beyond the shape. 🕊️
What did you come to yoga for? And what did it give you that you never expected?

Crawling Lizard 🦎

For a long time, I thought progress in yoga meant going deeper.
A little closer to the floor.
A little more range.
A little more flexibility.

But the more I learn about anatomy, and the more I practice, the more I realise that mobility isn't simply about how far we can move.
It's about what we can control, feel and understand within that range.

Crawling Lizard is a beautiful example of this.

Yes, we're exploring the hips! But we're also asking the pelvis, spine, trunk, shoulders and hands to work together. We're navigating sensation, stability, effort and limitation, all at once.

And perhaps that's where the practice becomes more interesting.
Instead of asking:
“How much deeper can I go?” 😥
What if we asked:
“Can I stay present with where I am?” 💡

Because sometimes progress isn't another centimetre.
Sometimes it's knowing when to soften.🫠
Sometimes it's recognising the difference between effort and force.
Sometimes it's listening to your body before asking it for more.
The body isn't a problem to overcome.
It is something to understand.

Swipe through to explore what's actually happening in Crawling Lizard → 🦎

And I'd love to know: when you practice hip openers, do you tend to focus more on going deeper or on understanding what you're feeling?

Same pose. Different experience. 🧘🏽‍♀️

3 variations of Setu Bandha Sarvangasana aka Bridge Pose to make your practice a little more interesting and perhaps a little more challenging 💪

We often think progression in yoga means going deeper, higher or harder 😥
But progression can also mean changing the variables.

Setu Bandha Sarvangasana is a beautiful example. The basic shape asks for spinal extension, hip extension and active engagement of the posterior chain, while the feet, shoulders and arms create the foundation.

From there, a small change in position can completely change the conversation with the body.

✨ Variation 1: Play with the lower-body position → explore a different demand on the legs and glutes. 🦵
✨ Variation 2: Add an element of instability → ask the body for more control and coordination. ⚖️
✨ Variation 3: Change the configuration to explore a different challenge. 🤸‍♀️

And that's the part of yoga I love! 😍

The goal isn't always to make the pose harder 💪
Sometimes it's simply to become more curious 🤔
More aware of where you're creating effort.
More conscious of where you're finding stability.
More present with how your body responds.

Because the shape may stay familiar, but our relationship with it can keep evolving.

Save this for the next time your Setu Bandha needs a little exploration. 🤍

⚠️ Practice within a range that feels appropriate for your body. Avoid forcing the neck or spine, and modify or skip variations that cause pain or discomfort.

There was a time when arm balances felt completely out of my scope.

During my teacher training, I remember trying this pose with props and still not being able to find my way into it. I couldn't understand how people seemed to just… balance there.

It felt like one of those things my body simply wasn't capable of.

And then, slowly, practice happened.

Not just the physical kind.

The patience.
The falling out.
The trying again.
The learning to distribute weight differently.
The understanding of my body.
The trust.

And today, after a really long yoga practice, I found myself in EPK II ... and I actually held it.

Was it perfect? No.

But that wasn't what made me happy.

I was happy because I remembered the girl who once thought this was impossible.

Yoga has given me so many moments like this! Moments where the biggest shift isn't in the shape of the body, but in the belief that says, “I can't.”

Maybe that's what practice really does.

It doesn't always make the impossible easy.

Sometimes, it simply teaches us to stop deciding what's impossible before we've given ourselves enough time to grow.

🦚

If you wanna do this pose, keep the following in mind:

⚠️ Avoid or modify EPK II if you have any of the following:
•Wrist injury or significant wrist pain
•Elbow injury
•Shoulder injury, instability or acute rotator-cuff irritation
•Acute low-back pain or significant lumbar symptoms
•Acute hamstring, hip-flexor or adductor injury
•Conditions that make weight-bearing through the hands inappropriate

🪷 EPK II isn't just about flexibility. It's about learning to trust your hands, shift your weight, engage your centre and let your legs fly.
