VOLUME 4!!!!!! Yet another obsolete cassette calendar for 2027! Presale is now live and pre-purchasing really helps so I don’t over-produce these babies. If you’re not familiar, this is a mini desk calendar housed in a clear cassette case which doubles as a stand, with the theme of “obsolete technologies” - each month is a new/old technology :) liner notes have my ramblings about each one. Makes a great stocking stuffer too 🪄

Preorders will ship second week of November and they go by regular snail mail to keep the cost low ish! Unfortunately I cannot ship to the USA on these as they may incur duties. by @flycatcherpress

Best Facebook marketplace score ever? I paid a very nice man $100 for this GR3770 Risograph printer and it came with 4 drums plus a couple inks (maybe still useable?) and a roll of master paper. I haven’t done that much riso printing but I’ve dreamed of adding one to the studio after I took a workshop years ago at @colourcodeprint (highly recommend!!). Seems like I have my work cut out for me though with this old dusty lady, so any great resources or people I should follow I’d be grateful for your recommendations 🥰 #risograph #printmaking by @flycatcherpress

Trying to squeeze a little out of summer…

We will be closed this sat/sunday, and next Saturday/Sunday, and then we’re off to California for a little trip September 1-7th. We’ll still be open on Fridays regular hours and I’m in the studio most days so also open “by chance”- if the lights are on, I’m there so just knock :) if you want to stop by specifically to browse or chat just message me the day before to confirm a time.

Back to regular hours, lots of workshops and the usual after September 7! Yay!

We are looking for amazing and talented vendors to grace the first inaugural HOLIDAY ON BEACH HILL market. We have lots of fun holiday stuff in the works for the market which will be held in the Naval club, at 1910 Gerrard street east, just across the street from Flycatcher Press. Our neighbouring beach hill businesses @beachhill_na will also be getting in on the action with open doors and festive spirits.

Such an honour to make this Linocut and letterpress poster for our friends @feldsparceramics to celebrate two years on the block!!!! We dropped by their party and it was a joy to see the community that they’ve created in their ceramics studio- so many smiles and laughs. A simple Linocut card for this months Card club - our snail mail club! What’s a “snail mail club”? It’s a fun way to support artists and designers work and receive a new thing in the mail each month. I’ve just updated our club subscription so NEW subscribers will get each month:

- one printed card & envelope
- a letter from me rambling about something
- one surprise paper goodie (stamps, stickers, ephemera)

Subscriptions are just $9 a month plus postage ($1.75 in Canada and $3.00 to the USA) and are a super way to support our little printshop here. We will be closed this weekend but come celebrate a belated stationery store day on August 5th from 6-8pm during our Letterwriting Social. Bring your paper, pens and address books. We will have some typewriters for you to try too (thin paper only!). Donations to our typewriter- spruce-up-fund are also welcome but not necessary. Mostly this is an excuse for me to finally get down to writing some letters I meant to send!

This was a very full weekend 🌷💗On Saturday we had our summer open studio and I was so grateful to share the space with amazing artists and vendors @samsonbooks @oddjobs_studio @world_of_plooof @staycuriousartist. And shoutout to my mom @donnapkiki for these beautiful home-grown flowers making people stop in their tracks!!! A beautiful day with lots of wonderful folks stopping by and checking us out. 👀 On Sunday I led our intro to Linocut course and another fantastic group of curious people came together to try Linocut (most for the first time since highschool) and they created some great prints in a few hours. A brief educationalish* video on how to use paper scraps in a letterpress studio (and have a bit of fun while you’re at it). Probably this video is longer than most people’s social media attention span but I thought it might be nice to narrate the steps clearly. But keep in mind that this whole process —from setting the type to cleaning up the press afterward— took (at a pretty leisurely pace) about 6ish hours. AND I have also been doing this for a number of years now! Printing forces you to take care and attention even when you’re just printing on “scraps”. Oh, and I usually just give these away to people who come into the shop. #letterpressprinting #printmaking by @flycatcherpress
