S3E23 🤟 Thomas Wurster joins us to talk fly shop life, local fishing culture, and why a great shop is about way more than just buying gear. We get into community, travel, chasing new water, and the experiences that shape how we fish. This has to be the best dry fly eats I’ve had in the last 3-4 seasons…I was searching for a quality dry fly fish all spring and early summer and boy did I get one a couple weeks back. A long & slow vertical eat had me saying “god save the queen” and the fight that ensued would have me soaked to my shoulders and smiling from ear to ear. Persistence paid off ✔️ #stpetesflyshop #weareguestsonthisriver #summerfishing #dryflyfishing #browntrout #salmotrutta #freestonefish #flyfishing #riomaketheconnection by @flyfishing_buck
It’s my favorite time of the year…SUMMER DRY FLY FISHING. I don’t have to second guess throwing on a dropper, just how much floatant I brought with me for the day. Dry fly season is HERE in full force! Gotta make the most out of the surface season… @stpetesflyshop @rioproducts @nrsfishing @coloradobha #stpetesflyshop #weareguestsonthisriver #riomaketheconnection #nrsfishing #coloradobha #summerseason #dryflyseason #dryflyfishing #browntrout #flyfishing #publiclands #westandforpublicland #ourwater #getoutside by @flyfishing_buck
When the mid-day bite slowed down, we found ourselves meandering the sun-scorched banks of the river, chasing a different kind of catch — elusive Morels. We didn’t plan on this adventure or its bountiful rewards, but that’s the beauty of days spent outside... That’s also why I was glad to be wearing the @nrsfishing Silkweight Hoody. It kept me cool and protected under the sun, and — turns out — the oversized hood makes a pretty great mushroom basket in a pinch. Sometimes the best fishing stories aren’t just about the fish… #gearupandgo #catchtheadventure #stpetesflyshop #weareguestsonthisriver #adayontheriverisagoodday #middaylull #foraging #morel #morelhunting @nrsweb by @flyfishing_buck
Gotta make the most of these long solstice evenings…and lately, that’s meant quick post-work floats on the Poudre trying to make the most out of every hour of the day we’ve got.  ~ After a spring that felt more like fall, it’s been clutch having the @nrsfishing Silkweight Hoody layered under their Campfire Flannel. Cool when you’re rowing in the sun, warm when the canyon breeze kicks up, and comfortable enough to forget you’re even wearing it. Add in the stash pockets and the built-in lens wipe? It’s the kind of gear that earns its spot every single float. ~ From rigging up to winding down, this is the setup that keeps me going…Whether I am at home, on the water, or at camp. Something new worth checking out... @nrsfishing @nrsweb #gearupandgo #catchtheadventure #nrsfishing #weareguestsonthisriver #stpetesflyshop #flyfishing #raftinglife #poudreriver #coloradoflyfishing #campfireflannel #silkweighthoody #flygear #eveningfloat #fishcolorado 📸: @jensboblitt by @flyfishing_buck
🎣 Got a sick day to burn? Now’s the time! ~ The topwater bite at Horsetooth Reservoir is 🔥 right now. Cicadas are dropping from the trees, and the smallmouth are exploding on the surface. Not to mention the subsurface bite... ~ This might be the best fishing we’ve seen in YEARS. 🤯 💥 Fish are stacked along the banks & rock structure
💥 Endless bite window

Finished out the 25-turkey season back in the Midwest, chasing my first Eastern turkey. Still in shock that it all came together in a matter of a day and everything went perfectly to plan. Definitely a bucket list item checked off the list. • The woods were alive in every way. From birds gobbling all day, to grouse drumming all around, bass on beds in the lakes, and morels poking their heads out of the soil. It felt like it had been forever since I spent a spring in the Midwest, let along Michigan. A refreshing change of pace that was much needed to clear the head. • It was great to go home, see family, and get back to the cabin for some much needed Cabin time. Nothing soothes the soul like some time with relatives and loved ones. Blending foraging and hunting together into a beautiful fireside meal that just feels like comfort. #turkeyhunting #springseason #springturkey #easternturkey #midwestturkey #puremichigan #mittenbird #springreset #familytime #inthewoods #tickcity by @flyfishing_buck

Another quick CO season. First morning out and the birds were fired up. I love these early season days out in the woods. I’ll consider it a late birthday gift from momma nature! Not the fish I was expecting to run into, but certainly appreciated. Crazy to think that just moments before this fish ate I had been thinking about how cool big brook trout were. Next thing I knew, I was holding one in my own hands. Very serendipitous to say the least… • Sometimes it pays to take the bobber off and just strip flies back to shore. Especially in heavy wind conditions and churned up water. The @rioproducts Single Hand Spey line made it easy to deliver long cast with little to no backcasting space through rough conditions. It’s been a great line for me over the years in a variety of water, and this stillwater season is no exception. • If you’re going to fish through poor conditions, you better have the have the right tools to get the job done. We can’t pick our days off, so you just gotta find ways to push through! #stpetesflyshop #weareguestsonthisriver #stillwaterflyfishing #springfishing #brooktrout #pb #rioproducts #riomaketheconnection by @flyfishing_buck
