🪽 Japanese Paper Earrings | Chopsticks Studio Ginza, Tokyo

🇩🇪🇬🇧 Japan Momente | Japan Moments

🇩🇪

🇬🇧
Originally, we had only booked one workshop through Airbnb – but we enjoyed it so much that we immediately booked a second one straight afterwards. 😄

Step by step, small pieces of Japanese paper were folded, shaped, sealed and turned into our own earrings. I loved seeing how something as simple as paper could become such a delicate piece of jewellery.
After making my little crane earrings, I simply had to create another pair. 🪽✨ Choosing the paper, colours and shapes ourselves made every piece completely unique.

Definitely one of those workshops that makes you think: I could happily do this again. 💛

🍃 Aus ein paar Mizuhiki-Schnüren werden filigrane Blätter

🇩🇪🇬🇧 Japan Momente | Japan Moments

📍 Komorebi | Tokyo @komorebi_harajuku_tokyo

🇬🇧
I’ve joined several Mizuhiki workshops at Komorebi in Tokyo by now – and somehow there is still something new to discover every time. 😊

This time, we created delicate leaves from green Mizuhiki cords. Step by step, the individual loops turned into different shapes before being arranged as a small framed piece.

That’s exactly what I enjoy about returning to these workshops: I become a little more confident with Mizuhiki each time while still learning a new shape or technique.

I also love how something so simple can turn into such a delicate little piece. 🍃✨

Would you like to try a Mizuhiki workshop in Japan?

🪄 A little bit of Hogwarts in the middle of Tokyo ✨

🇬🇧 In the middle of Tokyo, Akasaka feels a little bit like stepping into the Wizarding World. Hogwarts portraits, owls, the flying Ford Anglia, a giant Time-Turner and so many little details are waiting to be discovered around the area.
I especially loved seeing it at night when everything was illuminated. ✨

✈️ Mit der Boeing 747-8 in der Business Class nach Tokio 🇯🇵

🇩🇪🇬🇧 Japan Momente | Japan Moments

🇩🇪

🇬🇧
Sometimes the Japan experience begins long before landing. ✨

For this trip to Tokyo Haneda, I flew to Japan on Lufthansa’s Boeing 747-8 – and this time I got to enjoy the journey in Business Class.

I already have a soft spot for the 747, but sitting on the upper deck makes the flight feel even more special. ✈️ Add a quiet cabin, good food and even a Japanese-inspired meal with sake, and it became part of the travel experience itself. 🍶🇯🇵

And then comes one of my favourite moments on every Japan flight: the first glimpse of Japan through the window. 💙

For me, the journey is already part of the adventure.
Does your trip begin on the plane – or only after landing? ✈️

🇬🇧
One Japanese craft that fascinated me immediately: Temari. 🧵✨

During this workshop, I got to create my very first Temari ball. It looks delicate and effortless when finished, but making those geometric patterns takes so much patience and precision.

There were only two of us in the workshop, which made the experience wonderfully calm and personal. Our teacher @miwatemari was incredibly kind and patient and guided us through every step while also teaching us more about the tradition and the beautiful variety of Temari designs.

Of course, I chose dark blue with blue, purple and light details for mine. 💙🩷 I’m really happy with how it turned out – and this definitely won’t be my last workshop with her.

Have you ever seen or tried Temari before?

🇩🇪🇬🇧 Japan Momente | Japan Moments

🇩🇪

🇬🇧
A few weeks ago, I had my very first koto lesson at the EKO House in Düsseldorf. 🥰

The koto is a traditional Japanese string instrument, and actually sitting in front of one and learning how to create the first sounds felt completely different from simply listening to it.

I especially love the beautiful shape of the instrument, the movable bridges and its very distinctive way of playing. 🎶

I usually experience Japanese culture while travelling in Japan, so I really enjoy discovering moments like this closer to home as well.

And one thing is certain: this definitely wasn't my last koto lesson. 💙

Have you ever tried a traditional Japanese instrument?

👘 Oiran Performance | Asakusa, Tokyo

🇩🇪

Hättet ihr euch diesen Auftritt auch angesehen?

🇬🇧
Some experiences in Japan simply stay with you – and this evening in Asakusa was definitely one of them for me. ✨

Surrounded by red lanterns, music and the special atmosphere of Asakusa at night, the Oiran performance began.

I was especially fascinated by the elaborate kimono, beautiful hair ornaments and the slow, almost ceremonial movements. Even the way each step is carefully taken in the tall geta makes the performance incredibly captivating. 👘

It was one of those moments where I simply wanted to watch and take everything in.
Asakusa is already one of my favourite parts of Tokyo, but evenings like this make it feel even more magical. ❤️

Would you stop to watch a performance like this?

🪡 Sashiko Workshop | @canoha_sashiko

🇩🇪

🇬🇧
Another Japanese craft I really wanted to try myself: Sashiko. 🪡💙

There were only two of us in the workshop, so we had plenty of time to explore the different patterns and stitches. I especially loved seeing how different our finished pieces turned out.

I chose the colourful floral fabric and combined it with different shades of blue stitching. 🌸💙 What I love most about Sashiko is exactly this mix of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and creating something completely personal.

And just like with many Japanese crafts, something that looks quite simple at first actually requires a lot of patience and precision. 😅

But watching the pattern slowly appear stitch by stitch makes it so rewarding. ✨

🌸 Experiences like this are part of how my love for Japanese crafts keeps growing – and now continues through @yukiyori.handcrafts.

Warst du schon mal bei Hachikō in Shibuya?

EN:
Hachikō is one of those places in Shibuya that just feels iconic 🐶✨

Most people know the famous statue, but I also loved discovering a little more about his story and the connection to Akita.

What I found especially cute was that around Hachikō, you can find not only the well-known monument, but also little displays, illustrations and the HACHIFUL store that connects Shibuya and Akita.

To me, Hachikō is one of those Tokyo spots that may be famous, but still feels touching.

You are not just passing a statue – you are passing a story about loyalty, memory and love. 🤍

Have you been to Hachikō in Shibuya?

🌉 Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center | Tokyo

Kanntet ihr diesen Aussichtspunkt schon?

🇬🇧
🌉 Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center | Tokyo

One of the best ways to see Asakusa from a completely different perspective. ✨

Right across from Kaminarimon Gate you’ll find the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center – and at the top there’s a viewpoint that can easily be missed while exploring the neighbourhood.

From the free observation terrace on the 8th floor, you can look straight over Kaminarimon and the long Nakamise Shopping Street towards Sensō-ji. On the other side, you also get a great view of Tokyo Skytree. 🏮🗼

I always find it fascinating to see places I’ve just walked through from above. Nakamise especially looks completely different from this perspective.
There’s more to discover inside too, including a detailed model of the area and information about Taitō.
Such a lovely little stop in Asakusa – especially because the view is completely free. ✨
Did you know about this viewpoint?

🇬🇧
⚡ Harry Potter Café | Akasaka, Tokyo

Going out for food and feeling like you’ve stepped into the Wizarding World for a little while. 🪄✨

The Harry Potter Café in Akasaka is full of themed details – from the interior and menu to the food and drinks.

My highlight was definitely the blue drink served beneath a huge cloud of smoke. 💙✨ But the food was just as fun, with Golden Snitch-inspired details, little cauldrons and, of course, a Hedwig dessert. 🦉
I love themed cafés when the concept goes beyond the decoration and becomes part of the whole experience – and there was something magical to discover everywhere here.

And the Harry Potter atmosphere actually starts before you even reach the café. ⚡ I’ll show you the specially themed station in a separate post soon. 👀
What would you order first: the magical drink or Hedwig? 😄

Kennt ihr Denny’s? Und würdet ihr die japanische Version ausprobieren?

🇬🇧
🦪 Denny’s in Japan – of course I had to go!

I usually associate Denny’s with the USA. 🇺🇸 So there is always something slightly surreal about suddenly seeing that familiar red logo in Japan. 😄

One thing I really enjoy about international restaurant chains in Japan is how different their menus can be compared to other countries.

This time we had, among other things, crispy fried oysters 🦪, salads and a big mixed grill.

It may not be the first restaurant you think of when planning a trip to Japan, but I love discovering these little differences between countries. And for me, there is also a bit of nostalgia involved because I already knew Denny’s from the US. ❤️

Have you ever been to Denny’s – and would you try the Japanese version?
