I had a great time with the math-art community in Galway for the Bridges conference ⚝ Here are some pics of the art exhibition - there's a link in bio to see all the pieces in the gallery. Bonus pic of me modelling my new wool hat taken in University of Galway by @foldedcrystals

Here's my current project: a cuboctahedron in 6 colours, using my pinwheel modular units ❇️

More experimentation: this one is a pentagonal torus made from 5 of the new units ⬠
It started from trying to see how a node with only 2 units looked (previous models had 3 or 4 units/node).
I like the results - this opens up the design options a lot!

Today in this years first Meet the Minds behind the Math!
Gabriel Frampton @foldedcrystals

“By taking inspiration from knot theory, I developed a method of weaving strips to make modular origami. These shapes are remarkably stable without any glue or tape. My piece for this year’s Bridges showcases my newest units; this one is based on the dodecahedron but the same units can be adapted to many other shapes. I’d love to share the designs with anyone interested!” by @foldedcrystals

I finished the little octahedron made with my new units - it's very satisfying to hold ✦

I finally progressed on the new piece enough to show the cross-section ✧

This is the completed piece I'm bringing to the Bridges conference in Ireland this summer. Also shown is the half-finished companion, which uses identical units, just 60% fewer. 120 strips for the dodecahedron, and 48 for the octahedron.

I passed a big personal milestone yesterday - one million steps on my robot leg 🦿
The leg's computer keeps track for me - note it only records left steps so it reads half a million. It took me a little over a year.

I finished the first pentagonal window (of 12 total) on the new piece. It's getting more stable as I go - it really wanted to come apart when I started it!
