COMING UP: Your own personal Jesus

Jezus Christus is misschien wel de meest verbeelde persoon uit de westerse cultuurgeschiedenis. Niemand weet hoe hij er werkelijk uitzag, maar iedereen heeft een beeld bij hem. De tentoonstelling ‘Your own personal Jesus’ nodigt uit om na te denken over de rol van religieuze beeldcultuur binnen onze huidige maatschappij aan de hand van het werk van:

Jesus Christ is arguably the most frequently depicted figure in Western cultural history. No one knows what he truly looked like, yet everyone has an image of him in mind. The exhibition ‘Your own personal Jesus’ invites reflection on the role of religious visual culture in contemporary society through the work of:

Elephant & CATDOG by Elle van Baaren Kunst expositie beeld: een ruimte met daarin een sculptuur van een zittende olifant op ware grootte, gemaakt van schuim en grijze klei, het sculptuur word bij elkaar gespannen met 4 brede vel oranje spanningsbanden. Achter de olifant zie je een glimmend sculptuur recht overeind, leunend in een hoek; een wit glanzende dubbelzijdige dildo met aan het een uiteinde in het rood CAT en aan de andere kant DOG, van wel 4 meter hoog. taken in Kunstplatform L/NK by @folkert.dejong

What a great start to Folkert de Jong’s exhibition during @rendezvousbxl ! An intense first week, full of energy, discoveries and wonderful encounters.

We learned so much from @folkert.dejong and met so many passionate people eager to discover his work.

Brussels galleries reopen today — and you are invited to join them.

@GalerieChristopheGaillard presents Old DNA, the first solo exhibition in Brussels by Dutch artist @Folkert.deJong — sculptures and installations that give tangible form to the invisible layers of collective memory. Between decay and rebirth, the familiar and the foreign, de Jong composes a universe in which ancient beliefs resurface in forms at once monumental and fragile.

@RodolpheJanssen presents @AlvinOnglj: Another Life, opening 10 September at Livourne 35 — a new body of work bearing witness to the artist’s recovery from burnout in 2025. Bodies thin into ethereal translucency, faces dissolve into melancholy, screens implicate the viewer as spectator. A series on found antique blinds and signboards from Singapore introduces fragments of painted symbols, text and imagery — painting as palimpsest, and in the artist’s own words, a space for imagining “that we could have lived many lives, and many versions of ourselves.” Until 24 October.

@MaruaniMercier Gallery opens @Kasper_Sonne_: People Are Strange on 10 September at Avenue Louise 430. Elongated figures in iconic contemporary dress stand against vast, luminous seascapes. The paradox is deliberate: these characters have, as Sonne puts it, “no obvious reason to be in these environments.” Working in layers on unprimed linen, he builds shimmering colour fields that hover between the cinematic and the timeless — a meditation on displacement, oceanic feeling and the distance that separates one person from another.

Vorige week was de enorm geslaagde opening van de indrukwekkende expositie ‘𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝘿𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨’ van @folkert.dejong @ellevanbaaren & @max_onink 🔥🔥🔥

Iedereen geweldig bedankt voor je komst, de inspirerende gesprekken & gezelligheid ❤️

De opening werd verzorgd door @schellevisjacomijn / co-founder en coördinator educatie LINK, gevolgd door een verdiepende speech van beeldend kunstenaar @jcmdietvorst.

Ten slotte werden we meegenomen in de intrigerende wereld van Folkert de Jong, om daarna overgeleverd te worden aan het absurd-realistische en chaotische universum dat de kunstenaars gedurende een korte en intense artist-in-residence periode hebben gecreëerd!!!

Speciale shout out ook voor DJ Meneer @deperifeer en fotograaf Arjen Snijder / @kijk_zwolle en alle medewerkers van LINK die deze dag tot een succes hebben gemaakt ❤️❤️❤️
