COMING UP: Your own personal Jesus

Opening 29.10.2026 - 16:00

Arie Schippers @arieschippers100
Folkert de Jong @folkert.dejong
Martyna Marciniak @tyna_marc

‘Your own personal Jesus’ in 38CC vormt een tweeluik met de tentoonstelling ‘Golgotha’ in de Oude Kerk Delft @oudenieuwekerk

~Programma opening donderdag 29 oktober

Jesus Christ is arguably the most frequently depicted figure in Western cultural history. No one knows what he truly looked like, yet everyone has an image of him in mind. The exhibition ‘Your own personal Jesus’ invites reflection on the role of religious visual culture in contemporary society through the work of:

Arie Schippers @arieschippers100
Folkert de Jong @folkert.dejong
Martyna Marciniak @tyna_marc

Your own personal Jesus at 38CC forms a diptych with the exhibition Golgotha at the Oude Kerk in Delft @oudenieuwekerk

~Program opening Thursday 29th October
16:00 – Reception at the Oude Kerk, featuring a talk by Dr. Lieke Wijnia @l_wijnia (art historian and scholar of religion)
17:00 – Continuation of the opening at 38CC with music by Henk Koorn (Hallo Venray) and drinks

Looking back: A Field of Islands, 2025

In 2025 I curated and participated in A Field of Islands at De Vishal in Haarlem — an exhibition exploring landlessness, identity and belonging.

Carlos Blaaker, AiRich, Folkert de Jong, Mino Wortel, Serana Angelista, Karola Veldkamp, Rob Slooten, Fleur Ouwerkerk and myself brought together different perspectives on diaspora, memory, cultural entanglement and the question of what home means.

As curator, I developed a spatial installation of wooden island forms, with artworks placed on and above them. Visitors could physically move through this landscape.

The exhibition was rooted in the thinking of Édouard Glissant, particularly his ideas around creolization, relation and identities formed through movement, encounter and dispersion.

I would now like to revisit and further develop A Field of Islands at another location.

Do you know a museum, art institution or exhibition space where this project could resonate? Or would you like to explore the possibilities?

Please feel free to message me or share this post with someone who might be interested.

@folkert.dejong's solo show 'Old DNA' in Brussels runs until October 31 's solo show 'Old DNA' in Brussels runs until October 31.

Known for his distinctive use of industrial materials, #FolkertdeJong develops a sculptural body of work that questions notions of power, memory, and transmission. Working with materials drawn from the petrochemical industry, traditionally intended for insulation or construction, he overturns the established hierarchies between noble and ordinary materials, while also challenging the historical narratives and cultural values that shape our perception of the world. The figures that populate his installations seem to belong to different eras and different worlds.
