✨Highlight of the week✨

This week I had the opportunity to finish demos for our company, creating full dual arch bridges in Zirconia and finishing with @ivoclar CeramArt. I’m excited to see how the professional photos turn out!

Being asked to complete opportunities such as these always makes me realise how far I have come in such a short space of time!

Why social media is important for new techs… 🦷⬇️

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Social media has its positives and negatives, we all know this…

So how can it be used to a new tech’s advantage?

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

1. Personal digital portfolio

Having a personal digital portfolio is invaluable.

This is YOUR space, filled with YOUR work.

It allows you to reflect on your previous work and see how far you’ve come.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

2. Free education

Social media is FILLED with an endless supply of information (proceed with caution).

Gather tips, tricks and information from people all across the world.

This is great for new techs who don’t want to splash out on courses just yet.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

3. Networking

It allows us to connect with people we never would’ve known otherwise.

This is great for job opportunities, educational purposes and simply having a friendly face in the industry.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

4. Positive comparison

Seeing endless incredible pieces of work is a blessing and a curse, so proceed wisely.

It’s easy to stumble into the negative comparison trap…

But flip it to the positive and you have an entire industry showing you what’s truly possible.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

5. To help others

You may give a nervous new tech hope when they view your account.

You may show them what’s possible as a new tech.

This is a difficult industry for newcomers. Be the person you wish you had when you were starting out (or even right now).

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

How to deal with time pressure as a new dental tech… 🙌

⸻

Time pressure is STRONG in this industry.

Some thrive under the pressure, others don’t.

Time pressure in a fast-paced lab is different to university time pressure.

Don’t underestimate it.

⸻

This post isn’t to worry dental tech students, it’s to help you acknowledge it before starting in a lab.

So… how can we alleviate this pressure to prevent future overwhelm?

⸻

1. Structured daily to-do lists

Basic, but works wonders.

Ideally, write it the night before or morning of.

Create a to-do list you know you will follow. It doesn’t have to be fancy.

Reduce the mental clutter… write it down.

⸻

2. Don’t multitask

Easier said than done while working in a lab.

However, if you can prioritise your time by focusing exclusively on one task, your brain will thank you.

⸻

3. Communicate when you’re struggling

Communicate with your team, supervisor or manager. Let them know if you’re worried about a specific deadline.

Speaking about an issue can relieve emotional stress, and you may be given solutions you hadn’t thought of.

⸻

4. Take time for yourself

It may not feel like it, but you do have 5 minutes to make a coffee or walk outside.

These small breaks can completely transform your mood and allow you to feel more relaxed.

Alleviate the internal stress when you can’t control the external stress.

⸻

5. Slow it down

Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

We make more mistakes when we’re stressed and going 100 miles an hour.

Again, easier said than done, but slowing down can decrease the number of silly mistakes made.

⸻

The lab environment can be hard and stressful.

There is enough external pressure within this industry, don’t let it become internal pressure too.

Learning the right techniques early on can truly change how you view your career. #dentistry #dentalstudent #dentaltechnology #dentaltechnician #dentistrytips by @ford.prosthetics

The last few weeks have been filled with exciting opportunities, challenging cases and leading a training project!

I had the most fun experience of filming for Ivoclar! I’m so grateful to have been offered the opportunity to partake, and I’m proud of myself for leaving my comfort zone ;)

Training others can be difficult but it is incredibly rewarding. Seeing them overcome challenges and be proud of the final results is truly inspiring 🩷

Dealing with the stress of being a new dental technician… 🦷⬇️

⸻
Being a dental technician can be stressful.

When I first started in a fast-paced lab, I put way too much pressure on myself.

I was new and wanted to make a good impression.

⸻
But I was STRESSED.

Every single job meant everything to me, which is great, but also extremely debilitating.

I was doing 110% every day, burning myself out.

⸻
And one thing I’ve realised is that a stressed Ellie makes a LOT more mistakes.

She has slippery fingers, a forgetful mind, and is not exactly a joy to be around 😂.

⸻
I knew I had to start putting my mental health first.

I had to stop treating every job like it was a bomb about to explode.

⸻
The outcome?…

I stopped making as many silly mistakes.

The deadlines weren’t getting pushed back.

I was putting out good-quality work.

⸻
Why?

Because I slowed down.

You can’t put your everything into one job when your cup is constantly overflowing.

So, take a minute, give your nervous system a break, and try again.

My article about comparison within the lab has officially been published in the Laboratory magazine!

Comparison within the lab is inevitable, however how we view it is what can help us grow or hold us back…the choice is yours.

I’m so grateful to have had this opportunity, this is a huge accomplishment for me! Thank you @laboratory_dentistry and @dentistry_lucy 🦷🤍 by @ford.prosthetics

✨ This week’s highlight ✨

I have officially spent 1 whole year at Evodental! I can’t believe how fast the time has gone and how much I’ve learnt in this year. I’ve genuinely made friends for life and I’m so grateful for every opportunity.

This year has been a struggle, when you work in a fast paced environment it can be a lot at times. But ultimately, I’ve grown professionally and personally, and to that I’m so grateful :)

Here’s to another great year filled with growth, opportunities and great memories 🧿🎉

(Speaking of opportunities, if you guys have anything in mind, please message me 😊)

You’ve got the degree…
But is dental technology for you? ________
I’ve had a few people message me recently deciding that after getting their degree…dental tech isn’t the right fit for them. Here’s my response:

⸻

Now that graduation has passed,

degrees have been received,

and looming essay deadlines are no more…

is dental technology still the right choice for you?

⸻

You’ve officially got the dental tech title,

And that dreaded thought arises of “Is this really what I want?”

“What else would I do?”

“What will so and so think?”

“I did all of that effort for nothing”

⸻

And look, here’s the truth…

You can do whatever YOU want.

If you feel like dental technology isn’t quite right for you, that’s okay!

Give yourself time to explore and to find something that is the right fit.

⸻

Look at it this way,

You’ve got your degree,

You’ve realised it’s not the right fit for you,

Now you’re one step closer to finding what does work for you.

Realising what isn’t right for you is just as important as finding what is!

⸻

A degree isn’t the end of the road,

it’s the beginning,

whether that’s in dental technology or not…

Make it work for you!

⸻

And remember…

This is your life, no one else’s

It’s easy to pick your life based on what others want for you,

don’t fall into that trap.

Create the life YOU want <3
