The original 1957 letters are back. Soon, skating will be, too.

Check back next week for details on opening dates and programming for ice skating's return to Steinberg Rink as part of The Glade in Forest Park. Our team is looking forward to welcoming you here! by @forestparkglade

This @forestparkforever project is moving fast! One day we're staging trees to move by crane from a dirt lot, the next that lot is paved with fresh asphalt and parking lines.

Fun facts: There are 183 trees being added to Forest Park as part of The Glade. And there are 92 geothermal wells under that lot. by @forestparkglade

Buried hundreds of feet underneath the parking lot is one of many sustainability features of The Glade.

A system of 92 geothermal wells will store and transfer heat through water pipes as needed, so operating the rink and heating/cooling the building will be more efficient and use less energy year-round.

This feature designed by @mcclureengineering received a 2025 Technology Award from the St. Louis Chapter of ASHRAE. In this video, Stacey Wehe of @cannondesign describes this and other sustainability features, another reason we @forestparkforever are so excited to introduce The Glade to you. by @forestparkglade

Picturing you here with us. At the heart of The Glade is the 27,500 square-foot Steinberg Rink, which will have ice skating in winter, roller skating in the warmer months, and flexibility for all kinds of activities to discover here in Forest Park.

It's the feature we get asked about @forestparkforever the most because it's part of a St. Louis tradition since Steinberg opened in 1957. It's coming back along with so much more that will welcome you to this 22-acre part of eastern Forest Park. by @forestparkglade

What's happening at Steinberg? What's this Glade I keep hearing about? Find out what we've been up to at @forestparkforever, and how what we heard from the community is reflected in this amazing new 22-acre space.

A place to gather. A place to relax. A place to splash with kids and skate with friends. This 70-year-old amenity, getting new life in Forest Park's 150th year, will be a place for everyone, in every season. by @forestparkglade

It's the big things and the little things that tell us The Glade is getting closer to completion. The bike parking stations are installed at the northeast and southwest, and 10 BIG Marmo Maple* trees are being planted in the tree grove immediately south of Steinberg Rink.

*A cross between Red and Sugar Maple, the Marmo Maple is similar to the Autumn Blaze Maples in @forestparkforever on Art Hill and Pagoda Circle, but their fall color is more orange than red. The ones we are installing here are so big and heavy they need a crane to be placed into the tree pits in the grove. by @forestparkglade

Join the team that will reopen Steinberg Rink and introduce The Glade to St. Louis as a vibrant, welcoming space in all seasons! Forest Park Forever and our partners will host a job fair on Oct. 21-22 at the Visitor Center in Forest Park. Open positions range from hospitality and food and beverage to rink staff, security ambassadors and facilities management.

Flashback to the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse, viewed from atop Steinberg Rink in @forestparkforever. While this was an amazing moment in time, we're pretty sure, and very excited, that our community will find many daily ways to use the rooftop terrace at The Glade! by @forestparkglade

The floor-to-ceiling, bird-safe glass is in place on the ground floor at The Glade, and our @forestparkforever team is enjoying the views and angles as construction continues.

As we listened to the community on what you liked, what you missed, what you'd want to see at a restored Steinberg Rink as part of The Glade, we heard lots of wonderful memories. Tales from those who were there at the opening in 1957, and those who were 11-year-olds just a few years ago.

We're happy to say that when it re-opens later this year, you'll still be able to people-watch by the fire pits while your bestie fishes at Jefferson Lake. You'll still meet your friends at the rink, whether you're skating or just watching. You still might meet your future partner here on an enchanting starry night. But no, sorry, you can't drive the Zamboni.

Image 3: Another illustration of a memory collected at our open house: "I started skating here on opening day: Nov. 19, 1957. I met my wife here. I actually worked as a rink attendant. I am officially certified to drive the Zamboni :) - Russ Owen.

183 new trees. Over 100,000 new plantings. You didn't think this project was *just* concrete and glass, ice and paths, great food and panoramic views, splashing and gathering...did you? We are @ForestParkForever, a nonprofit conservancy. We love our green spaces and taking care of this 1,300-acre treasure's landscapes. So yes, from Kingshighway to the Taylor Kindle River, The Glade will be alive with flora and we can't wait for you to experience it.

Pictured is our team planting on the east hillside of the site, along what will be an accessible path from Kingshighway, plus a rendering of this section and a video of our team planting this past week.
