Sweet Hedwig passed away last night. I’m so grateful for the two years he was part of my little family. He joined my family during a time of grief, and added so much joy. He was pure sweetness.

Hedwig shows that even the smallest of animals (and all animals) are capable of love and hold their own little personalities. There are so many examples of that in this world, and I feel so lucky to have experienced it firsthand with so many special animals throughout my life.

RIP Hedwig. I hope you felt how loved you were every single day. 💕 by @forever.lyss

Last week I attended another amazing Lunch and Lit at one of my favorite places. 🌙

@madelinemmartin was a joy to see, and it was so fun getting to talk about our shared love of Disney World and Haunted Mansion. 👻

This is the perfect time of year for her new book, ✨ A Time of Witches✨ , to be released. It’s a dual timeline between present day Savannah and 1600s England. The pages are filled with magic, friendship, chosen family, history, and a hint of love. 🌙

And the cover!! It couldn’t be a more beautiful book to add to my witch themed collection. 🌙

(I also really appreciate any book that incorporates a love of animals, and acknowledgment of how amazing black cats or black dogs are. Black dog/cat syndrome at shelters is real, and as a volunteer I’ve seen it over and over where they are less likely to be adopted over other shelter animals, even when they have extra incredible personalities. )🖤

Reading a good book comforts the soul. 🖤

This was my second Riley Sager book and I loved it even more than I expected to. So completely unpredictable with lots of twists, a cliffside gothic manor, and an ending that didn’t disappoint and brought me joy. by @forever.lyss

Books have helped me survive the past few months. 📖

They allow you to escape and travel and dream and experience and grow, all while being present right where you are.

Life has hit a bit hard lately in a lot of different directions, and I have been craving road trips for perspective and breaks, but haven’t been able to take them because my senior girls are needing me extra lately. And I don’t want to miss any of the fleeting time that I have left with them.

Getting to read with them right by my side is a gift that I don’t take for granted. 📖 by @forever.lyss

Chiropractor days for Nyla are some of our favorite days. There is no better feeling than knowing you are doing what you can to provide as much comfort and health support for your senior dogs as possible. ✨

Just started reading This Changes Everything by Lisa Scottoline and am absolutely loving it! ✨

There’s a murder, mystery, hints of psychic abilities, likable characters, and astrology all within the first few pages!

My Mom and I recently got to see her on the last stop of her book tour, and the night was filled with laughs and fun and connection. Seeing authors is one of my favorite things to do, and having an amazing local bookstore that organizes so many events is one of the reasons I moved here a few years ago, and one of the reasons my mom followed a few years later. Bookstores and authors are gifts to the community and to the world. 📖

My Mom and I ended the night with an amazing conversation with Lisa, sharing dog pictures (we both have cavis!!!), talking about how special it is we both have strong mom/daughter friendships, and I left feeling so inspired and grateful.

Goodness, gratitude and presence are all contagious and should be sought out like your life depends on it, because it does. ✨

Grateful for the amazing night, and for so much right now, including having these two by my side, whether I’m reading or working or or doing single senior dog mom things or just existing, their love and presence is always an overwhelming goodness in my days. ✨

I was so drawn to this house, named Seven Oaks because it’s supported by seven very large oak tree stumps.

I’ve been dreaming about what the inside might look like ever since.

✨The Squire Pope Carriage House ✨

This beautifully preserved and renovated home, built in 1850, now serves as the impressive Welcome Center for Bluffton, SC.

The property is stunning and expansive, overlooking the May River. This portion of the home survived the 1863 “Burning of Bluffton” during the Civil War and was purchased by the town in 2017 and renovated.

I was drawn to this house right away when we parked by the river, and was so excited to learn it was the Welcome Center and that we were able to go inside! The original hardwood floors remain, and the fireplace mantels. It’s even more beautiful in person. While I didn’t experience any ghosts (I did ask, and heard some ghost stories about the near by Oyster Factory Park 👻) you can feel the history and stories around you.

Being back in Bluffton after so many years was incredibly heartwarming. The care and investment the town has put into preserving its history is inspiring. Historic preservation is so underrated, but places like this show exactly why it matters, not just for the charm and beauty, but for the stories, education, and the history behind the town that is kept alive for us to experience. ✨
