My partner is cruising. I feel hatred, revulsion, and terror. Why? I chat through it with my friend @ianolympio in The bedroom interviews episode 03: The site of desire.

I’ve mostly been sweet and maybe a little cryptic on the internet. Never quite real about what I’m thinking or feeling. Until I started a Substack.

The bedroom interviews is my ongoing exploration of love, sex, and relationships via chats with my partner, lovers, and friends in bed. This week, read and watch about cruising, inconsolable weeping, and hotel profiteroles.

I’m scared, even after having literally 17 friends tell me this is ok. Link in bio. Thank u love u. by @forsythharmon

One of the pleasures of creative collaboration is surprise. What happens when a writer and an illustrator work together? Forsyth and I talked a lot about what we wanted the illustrations to do for the text. Rather than rendering pristine, finished pastries, Forsyth’s paintings hide easter eggs that help build the narrator’s world: a medicine cabinet of expired prescriptions, a hot teabag burning a hand, a haphazard stack of books that includes Forsyth’s first novel, which I read years before I asked her to work with me on this one.

We’re raffling all 25 of the book’s beautifully framed original paintings, with every dollar going to @onelovecommunityfridge, an incredible organization that does essential work feeding New Yorkers through building sustainable community. Raffle tickets are $10; you can enter as many times as you’d like to increase both your odds and impact. Local NYC pickup available, with shipping everywhere else. Visit the site to see lines from the narrative alongside each painting <3 by @forsythharmon

This is the first illustration in @will.this.make.me.happy’s forthcoming narrative cookbook, created in intimate collaboration with the author. We decided on the scene, I went over to hers, we took reference photos, she served me an ecstacy-inspiring grilled peanut butter, jelly, and ice cream sandwich. But there’s more. If you’ve seen Tanya bake—or do anything, really—you know she brings a unique combination of charm, ambition, nerves, messiness, daring, and spontaneity. And so I also tried to channel that energy into these lines and color washes. Can you feel it?

This is a long way of saying that you can win a 9x12” archival print of this watercolor (or a very specific t-shirt, or your dream cake made by Tanya herself!) by submitting your WILL THIS MAKE YOU HAPPY preorder info via Google form. One preorder equals one entry. Winners will be chosen at random and announced on January 27th. by @forsythharmon

The process behind painting the illustrations and cover for @will.this.make.me.happy’s forthcoming autofictional cookbook includes but is not limited to: taking baths, smoking cigarettes, getting parking tickets and tatts, crying real tears, and wearing leopard print. As someone who comes from a long matrilineal line of dessert-before-dinner girls, and who adores @will.this.make.me.happy so much she’s a pinned contact, I have love love loved making paintings for her forthcoming memoir-come-baking cookbook, which is just as brilliant and beautiful as the pâtissière herself. The story is about coming back to life doing what you love, and working with Tanya, well—it made me happy. WILL THIS MAKE YOU HAPPY is available for preorder today!
