Having moved out to Oregon from suburbia was quite a culture shock for 16-year-old me. It feels like I’ve been here for long enough to have seen so much of this beautiful state. Now having completed the Oregon coast trail, I feel blessed to have had the chance to get to explore one of the wildest coastlines in the country. Met some amazing people and had a chance to hike this trail with a buddy of mine which made the hike even more fun! by @foundationhikes

It was a nice change of scenery to get out to hike through the desert of Southern Idaho. Saw some cool stuff, met some cool folks. Maybe next time I’ll remember the sunscreen 🄵 taken in Bruneau–Jarbidge Rivers Wilderness by @foundationhikes

Colorado is probably the only place I will continue to return to for a repeat thru-hike. People ask me why I come back to hike the same trail again. I think it’s something akin to this trail being my first thru-hike and the impact that that had on me in my early twenties. Coming from out east where the mountains are more like big hills, I love the majestic scenery this trail takes you through. From bustling hiker/biker highways near Breckenridge and Leadville to the remote faraway places in the southwest of the state, I find its transition from social and touristy hubs to more spread out landscapes to be like a slow exodus from society. I wish I had more words to put to just how awesome of an experience this was… To all the hikers, trail angels, and townsfolk who helped me along the way, I appreciate all the support and encouragement. It is such an amazing thing to see how good people can be. Cheers to you! by @foundationhikes

My thru-hike of the Tahoe rim trail was most excellent! I never tire of doing this hiking thing. It’s taken a long time for me to get back into the groove of things since my last long distance adventure two years ago but the time and effort I have invested in getting to where I am now has totally been worth it! Looking forward to more exciting adventure to come this year. #dostuff #inthemountains by @foundationhikes

I felt that this poem is a good summation of my current situation(minus the lumber strike bit)…The snow and cold of Northern Washington at this time of year are a formidable force to reckon with. I’m glad to have had the opportunity to get out in a different time of year where it seemed at times that the forest were empty of all inhabitants, other than the animals of course… The bad news is I’m heading home and won’t be finishing my PNT thru-hike. The good news is that not finishing this hike gives me something to look forward to next hiking season. Ah, peace of mind… While my adventures on the PNT have come to a close and Iā€˜ll probably be processing this shift back into the ā€œreal worldā€ for awhile, only feel it proper to say thanks to the cast of characters of whom I got to share my adventures with… I will cherish the memories we created for years to come. #pacificnorthwesttrail #silverlining #smilesovermiles by @foundationhikes

Fall is quickly on its way out, and hiking in snow has become the norm… I found myself in some dicey situations on this last stretch… When I awoke to half a foot of snow dumped on my tent I realized that the adventure I bargained for might be getting a bit more surreal than I had expected. I was on the brink of turning back but when I discovered I was only eight miles out from a cabin at the top of Apex pass I conceded that the only way out was forward. The next two days in that cabin felt like an eternity. Thankfully, the cabin was well equipped with all the tools and resources I needed to keep me goal oriented and focused so as to not allow the fear to take root. All those hours of watching Survivorman seem to have paid off… I pushed off on the third morning with a quickness I never knew existed within me and made it to town with one more notch added to my belt(no pun intended). #pacificnorthwesttrail #trailadventure #growthroughwhatyougothrough taken in North Cascades Mountain Hostel by @foundationhikes

A little less than a third of the way done with this trail. Idaho was a memorable experience. Moving through the panhandle, I had to make sure not to blink. Everyone was super nice in the two towns I passed through, but I was certainly glad to make my way into the last and largest of the states on this trail. And so begins Washington… #pacificnorthwesttrail #westcoastbestcoast taken in Metaline Falls, Washington by @foundationhikes

Made it to Yaak, MT! Slow progress starting this trail, but of all the states I would choose to take it slow through Montana is the one for sure! #bigskycountry taken in Yaak River Tavern & Mercantile by @foundationhikes

From the east to the west, it’s been a hell of a re-entry but it sure is great being back in the woods. I thoroughly enjoyed congratulating some of the CDT thru-hikers as they were making their last miles to the Chief mountain monument… Heading into Glacier NP near the end of the hiking season was a bit intimidating and it warranted some weird looks from the people on their way out. The common mantra from most of the hikers I passed was ā€œdon’t you think it’s a little late in the seasonā€ā€¦ I can only imagine what is on the horizon in the weeks/months to come, but for now I’m recuperating at a family friends’ house while I heal up. Ready for my next stretch and hoping to get back on trail in a few days to continue my journey westward. #pacificnorthwesttrail #hikemore #worryless taken in Bigfork, Montana by @foundationhikes
