For the first time in its history, the International Conference on Family Planning (@theicfp) will take place in Latin America - coming to Bogotá in November 2025 🇨🇴✨️

In anticipation of this milestone, FPNN is proud to launch Habla LAC: a new series amplifying SRHR voices from 10 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean. As the global SRHR community faces budget cuts and mounting challenges, the series highlights local leadership, innovation, and the power of community-based care.

After surviving sexual violence at age 13 in Indonesia and receiving little support from authorities, Dina Chaerani dedicated her life to advocating for survivors and promoting comprehensive sexuality education. Now living childfree with her partner in the Netherlands, she still faces intense family and social pressure in Indonesia to conform to traditional expectations of marriage and motherhood. Despite these pronatalist pressures, Dina continues to work tirelessly for youth-led sexual and reproductive health and rights.

When did governments start criminalizing abortion?

Continuing our abortion series, I asked historian Mina Moriarty @minamoriarty to take us back.

In Britain, abortion was first explicitly criminalized by statute in 1803. By 1861, the Offences Against the Person Act further entrenched abortion in criminal law.

So when people say abortion has “always” been illegal, history says otherwise.

Laws have a history. And that history matters.

@sydney_sweeney @novig ad is not politically neutral. It turns a woman’s body into commercial infrastructure for attention, sport and financial speculation. Calling it “choice” does not place it beyond feminist critique.

At the same time, Meta continues to restrict abortion information, sex education and SRHR content while highly sexualised commercial content travels easily through the same platforms.

That contradiction is the point.

Sexuality that sells is profitable.

Sexuality that informs is treated as dangerous.

I want neither corporate objectification nor corporate censorship.
