The green floored studio at Lovedays House still floors me. This and other genius strokes and color choices by @adambraydesigns are why i wanted to work with him. Read more about him in this week’s Substack. Link in profile. The room has evolved considerably since then and I’m excited to say the house is nearing a level of “completion” or perhaps more accurately, pausing, rather than “done.” Some designers would disagree - ie @tomscheerer , who says decorate your house then get on with your life! I get it, but Im not sure I could live it. For one thing i can’t afford to do everything i want to do at once, so there’s always something wanting and waiting. But to me a house is never complete, because it changes as we change in order to support and reflect who we are and possibly who we want to become. Tell me about your house and I’ll tell you about your life. The renovation of Bee Cottage years ago helped me to heal my life and to clean up the muddle I’d made of it, and I suppose Lovedays House now is serving a similar purpose. As i (with Adam’s help) settle into and work out the last bits of the house, i find i am settling into this new chapter of life after a period of transition and loss. And then… to shape and tend the new (to me) garden, which is both a challenge and a joy. Let us always be learning… and tending our lives, houses, and gardens with presence and love. Goodness i got carried away and all philosophical this morning! But Id love to hear your thoughts. I’m thinking and writing about this metaphor of home and self a lot these days and curious about your own experiences and if this resonates with you at all. Carved in stone. Nice to give this gracious old house her due and to watch a master at his craft @stoneartcotswold. Sebastien David and artisans like him are an important part of preserving the culture and heritage of Britain and the Cotswolds — and any country whose architecture is part of its history. Speaking of, a tidbit: When i went to look up “Lovedays House” in the Historic England listings it is not listed as such. Rather it is called, clunkily imo, “the Vicarage and Flank Wall” because it did serve as the vicarage for a while, but its original name is Lovedays House, after the Quaker clothier and wool merchant who built it ca 1742. A pretty slant of morning light in my Lovedays House bedroom. Design @adambraydesigns for the gorgeous Venetian mirror, painted chest and @charlesburger1860 curtains which I love, and glimpse of @robertkime on chair… Dont know if I’ve quite landed the styling … or a solution to what to do with my mama’s Staffordshire, but it is here for now… 🤷🏻‍♀️ and 2) in the loo. Wallpaper @hamiltonwestonwallpapersltd , 3-4) the kitchen window (an idea i nicked from the fabulous @violetburns 💙) and 5) a random hall window. A splodge of summer walks from 1 Painswick to the 2-3-4 Yorkshire Dales to 5 Scotland to 6 Falls of the Dockhart, where I had time for a 7 quick sketch to 8 Blair Castle in Pitlochry (with the famius china closet from reell a few posts back) 9-14 to 15 Berwick-upon-Tweed fir q quick lunch by this bridge to somewhere… to be continued…🤗 Where has the summer gone?! Hope yours is great and not quite as hot and dry as ours in England … and of our friends in Europe…. Honk if you think all greens go together. @stephendrucker told me that back in our @housebeautiful days together and he was right. About pretty much everything 🤗… Good morning from the little breakfast nook at Lovedays House, at least one spot that has come together… Just yesterday hung this wonderful painting by my friend @hbcunning whose work I love (and her too!) It transforms the space with its surprise of color and scale, and i love it there. Chairs are vintage @richard_keith_langham and have lived in at least 4 places since ive had them… The house is getting there. Slowly. by @francesschultz

Link in profile but don’t say I didn’t warn you. It lasts about 2 years unless you speed it up in the settings. One of the comment on the You Tube channel said “Please stop talking” 😆 I replied “I agree!” But most of the comments were really nice, and I was gobsmacked, and a couple of them kinda made me teary. I have read every single one so far. I do try to give at least some useful info and a few organizing tips In between just running my mouth about heaven knows what. And I realized wow how many people there were to credit and who influenced me and contributed materially to my sense of design, home, and humor (!) Anyway it was fun and the @homeworthy team is amazing. Isn’t it great. I love what they’re doing and so do a lot of us apparently as they have about a zillion followers. Thank you so much all y’all who watched and said sweet things. I don’t know that I deserve it, but I sure do appreciate it.
