Poomsae isn’t just about being flexible.

To perform your techniques with height, speed, balance, and precision, you need the physical capacity to control your body through every position.

That means developing:

🥋 Mobility — to access the ranges your techniques require
💪 Strength — to produce and control force
⚖️ Balance & stability — to stay controlled on one leg
🔄 Trunk & rotational control — to connect your lower and upper body
🎯 Precision & coordination — to turn physical ability into better technique

And if pain or limited mobility is getting in the way, simply stretching more or pushing through it isn’t always the answer.

Your training should prepare your body for the demands of Poomsae—not just treat the symptoms when something hurts.

At Strike Physio, we work with Taekwondo athletes to build the strength, mobility, and control they need to train and perform at their best.

And yes… lots of side kicks. 🥋

Hip pain rehab for a Taekwondo Master, by a Taekwondo Master. 👊

People see the years of experience, the rank, and the ability to teach.

What they don’t always see are the thousands of kicks, demonstrations, and hours spent on the mat that got them there.

The best instructors understand that taking care of their bodies isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s what allows them to keep leading from the front.

Because when your body is your craft, maintaining it is part of the job.

Here’s to staying healthy, moving well, and continuing to inspire the next generation of martial artists.

Taekwondo athletes deserve more than generic rehab. 🥋

As a taekwondo master, strength & conditioning coach, and physical therapist, I understand the demands of the sport — not just the injuries that come with it. 🥼

From hip mobility and kicking mechanics to power, speed, overuse injuries, and return-to-sport progressions, treatment is built around helping you continue training and performing at a high level. 📈

Too often, athletes are told to stop training completely or are given rehab that doesn’t actually translate back to taekwondo.

At Strike Physio, the goal is different:
Recover properly. Move better. Perform better. Stay in the sport longer.

Whether you’re dealing with hip pain, knee pain, hamstring strains, shin splints, back pain, or recurring injuries that keep coming back — care is designed specifically for the demands of taekwondo.

✅ 1-on-1 treatment sessions
✅ 60-minute appointments
✅ Sport-specific rehab + performance approach
✅ Hands-on treatment when appropriate
✅ No insurance limitations dictating your care

💆‍♂️ Massage can help relieve pain, but relief isn’t always the same as recovery.

When pain shows up, the goal isn’t just to make it feel better temporarily. It’s to understand why it hurts and address the factors contributing to it.

That may mean improving strength, mobility, coordination, or your body’s ability to tolerate load.

Hands-on treatment can be helpful, but pairing it with the right exercises can help build lasting improvements and get you back to doing what you love. 💪

Don’t just chase pain relief. Build a body that’s ready for what you do.

🥋 A better side kick starts with more than flexibility.

Developing a strong, controlled side kick requires the right combination of mobility, strength, and coordination.

Sometimes, improving a technique means changing how you train it — building the physical qualities behind the movement before applying them to the full technique.

🥋 Want a stronger, more controlled axe kick?

In Taekwondo Kyorugi, getting your leg high is only part of the equation. You also need the strength to actively lift your leg, control the movement, and bring it through the range required for the technique.

Your hip flexors play an important role in developing that active range of motion.

Flexibility gets you into position. Strength helps you control it.

Train for the demands of your technique, not just the appearance of the movement.

Taekwondo training builds skill, technique, and discipline. But how well your body can support those skills matters, too. 🥋

Combining traditional martial arts training with sports physical therapy can help athletes develop the strength, mobility, and control needed to execute techniques more effectively.

The goal isn’t to replace what you learn in the dojang. It’s to complement it — bridging the gap between how you train and what your body needs to perform.

Better movement supports better martial arts.

Shoulder instability in BJJ? 🤼‍♂️

Grappling places your shoulders under unpredictable demands, from posting on the mat to fighting for positions and controlling an opponent.

Building shoulder stability isn’t just about getting stronger. It’s about developing the control and capacity to handle force in different positions without feeling like your shoulder is giving way.

The goal is to build a shoulder that can handle the demands of grappling so you can train with confidence.

Don’t just get back on the mat. Build a shoulder that’s ready for it. 🥋

🥋 Hamstring pain when kicking?

Whether you practice Taekwondo, Muay Thai, Karate, or another martial art, your hamstrings play an important role in how you kick.

High kicks demand more than flexibility. Your hamstrings need to tolerate lengthening under tension while your hips generate the range of motion and control needed for the technique.

If you’re experiencing pain or pulling in the back of your thigh, stretching more isn’t necessarily the answer. You may need to address your mobility, strength, and ability to tolerate the demands of kicking.

Don’t just chase higher kicks. Build a body that can handle them.

Behind every great instructor is a commitment to their own growth — and that includes taking care of their body. 🥋

For martial arts masters and instructors, staying healthy and capable isn’t just about themselves. It allows them to continue teaching, demonstrating, and guiding the next generation of martial artists.

Shoutout to Master Chris from @trinity_martialartsacademy for investing in his own health so he can continue investing in his students. 👊

Take care of the body that allows you to teach, lead, and inspire. 🥋

Anyone can pick an exercise. 🏋️
The hard part is knowing why you’re using it.

For a Poomsae athlete, an exercise shouldn’t just look athletic—it should have a purpose.

What are we trying to improve?
What physical quality are we developing?
And how does that quality transfer to the demands of Poomsae?

The exercise is just the tool.

The intention behind it is what matters.

ACL rehabilitation is a progressive process of rebuilding the physical capabilities required for sport. 🤼

For grapplers, that means developing the ability to produce and absorb force, control movement, and tolerate dynamic and unpredictable demands. 🥋

The objective isn’t simply to restore knee function.

It’s to restore the athlete’s capacity to perform.
