About 6 days prior going into the State Tournament I found out my sister had Leukemia. It really affected me mentally and caused me to wrestle in honor of her. My goal and dream was to go into state and win the title for her, whatever it took no matter who I wrestled. I was one match away from accomplishing that goal and dream. I gave everything I had every match and left it all out on the mat. I know that even though I came up short she was still proud of me and what I had accomplished. After the match, I prayed, I said, “Dear God, if it is your will to take me this far and not win state but heal my sister and save her then let your will be done.” Trusting his plan was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. Even though I wanted to win that state title so bad, God had a different plan in mind. As a senior wrestler, I accomplished so much, such as:
- finishing senior year with a 20-2 record
- being a 4x state placer
- 2x Team State Runner Up
- 1x State Finalist
I accomplished goals I never thought I would a year ago. But thanks to my amazing coaches and family who pushed me everyday to get better this would never have happened. I want to thank all the people who believed in me, I want to thank my coaches, family, and most of all God for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime. I also want to thank everyone who has been praying for my sister and my family. When I graduate from Curtis in a couple of months, I will proudly be able to say that I am a smarter and better person who is prepared for tough times in the world. I want to thank the entire Curtis family for everything they have done for me and my family and all the opportunities they have given me and my family. This school is so special and powerful and there’s not a place on Earth I would rather graduate than here.
