Crime and Punishment Jenga
books, wood
2026

A Jenga tower made of custom format copies of Dostoevskyโ€™s Crime and Punishment (1866). This continual global interplay between the two. Law and order, good and evil, innocence and violence. In Dostoevskyโ€™s novel, the most immoral character is a young law student, who is saved by the friendship of a sex worker outcast from society.

Come see Crime and Punishment Jenga and the rest of Machine Wound next week during our new opening hours.

An armor for laptop and mouse, based on Kolman Helmschmidt cuirass 1510-20.

Daniel Hopfer's engraving 1510-1520 shows the saints hard at work - St. George fighting the dragon, mother Mary nurturing her child Jesus, St. Christopher carrying the infant through the river. And the cherubs and fanfares that await them in heaven.

But what rest awaits us when this war of life is over? Where do we wage it? And can't this be the site of great bravery too?

Honoured to be included in 'I Didn't Cross the Border, The Border Crossed Me' at @museumw.weert alongside my absolute idols Miriam Cahn, Nan Goldin, and many other stars. Presenting two works including a wild new Kids Map made with Elementary School de Kameleon, Weert.

The group exhibition challenges us to reflect on the borders we draw daily, both physical and social. Imaginary lines: subjective, endless, and abstract, that take on profound meaning once they are fixedโ€”on a map, in a law, or in our collective consciousness.

With works by Maja Irene Bolier, Eli Content, Miriam Cahn, Nan Goldin, Frans van Hoek, Duane Michals, Dakota Magdalena Mokhammad, Prins Nicolas, Hemaseh Manawi Rad, Denys Shantar, Anne Silverstrand Forest, Leon Stoffelen, Koes Staassen, Silvia B., Charles Vos and Hanneke Wetzer.

Frans van Hoek (he/him, b. 1995, ZA/NL) is a conceptual artist based in The Hague, NL.

Influenced by his youth in South Africa's Karoo desert, where fossils, satellite towers, and colonial musket rounds coexist casually, his practice explores the world by layering these different timescales.

His works use humour and familiar forms to make philosophical questions more accessible, and difficult discussions about our past and present easier.

Come see Frans van Hoek's work on the 24th of October

28โ€“31 August 2026
VIP Preview: 27 August (by invitation/request)
Opening: 28 August, 19:00โ€“00:00

Exhibition: 28โ€“31 August 2026
Maison de la Socieฬteฬ des Architectes
130 Avenue du Prado, 13008 Marseille

Meet five more artists joining the exhibition.
Frans van Hoek (@franslucent) draws on memories of his youth in South Africaโ€™s Karoo desert, where fossils, colonial musket rounds, and hi-tech satellite towers coexist across time. His playful practice bridges these timelines and disciplines in an attempt to build a collective understanding of our past, present, and future.

Natasha Batby & Thibault Cliquet (@_natbat & @tea.stonecarving) are artistic and life partners whose collaborative practice brings together Natashaโ€™s image-based and narrative work with Thibaultโ€™s sculptural and structural expertise. Their pieces bridge emotion, material, and cultural commentary.

Hugo Langlade (@complexe.sportif) explores how contemporary image systems and technologies mediate perception, transforming catastrophic realities into distant spectacles that displace attention from the possibility of action.

Ivy Vo (@vovynam) turns digital images into bodies that donโ€™t quite fit โ€” glitching and reforming until meaning, repetition, and translation begin to slip.

Eva Pracca (@eva.pracca) draws on the study of the psyche and a longstanding commitment to yoga. Her research reveals convergences of forms and symbols across time, bringing together ceramics, millennia-old cultural heritage, decadent literature, ornamentation, and interior spaces as active sites of meaning. taken in ART-O-RAMA by @franslucent

๐ŸŒ Youโ€™re warmly invited to EARTHLY DELIGHTS, a duo exhibition by Pippilotta Yerna and Frans van Hoek.

OPENING TUE.AUG.11 18:00-20:00
ON VIEW until AUG.13 10:00-18:00

The exhibition brings together works exploring death through personal and ecological lenses, playfully contrasting Boschโ€™s paradise garden with the harsh emotional and evolutionary reality of life on Earth, marked by grief and extinction.

Van Gogh Marathon, 2024
solo act, 6h07
Arles, FR

A marathon from Van Goghโ€™s house in Arles to his asylum in St. Remy, which happens to be 42km, the official marathon distance.

Through many of his paintings, past all his favorite bars. On one hand a homage, on the other an absurdist allegory on the artistโ€™s life, a single runner in the heat of the fields around Arles. A ridiculous marathon through caves, over a mountain, and down the highway towards the asylum.

This difficult beauty of being in nature. The various ways we deal with our suffering - running, painting, drinking, abuse, vacations, suicide - and if we can improve on the ways of the past.

In the summer of 1890 Vincent shot himself in a field, passed out due to blood loss, woke up, staggered back into town to his inn, and died two days later.

'ClimaCool', 2024
recycled polyester, badge

A series of national football jerseys for ancient civilizations wiped out by climate change.

At once a homage to these once-powerful and vibrant cultures, and a memento mori for current hypernationalism in the face of ecological collapse.

โคท

Harappa (3300BC - 1800BC) was an ancient multi-city civilisation in the Indus Valley of modern-day Pakistan, with a writing system, urban centres, advanced drainage infrastructure and diversified social and economic systems.

Reigning over 1,500 years, severe falling sea levels caused certain regions to be abandoned. During these late stages, the civilization lost features such as writing and hydraulic engineering, before disappearing entirely.

Overview of 'Wound Machine' (2026)
@mad_____meg

A solo show in a labyrinth of rooms of a former brothel, looking at the interplay between innocence and violence.

Commercial LED signs of macabre childrenโ€™s drawings, a plush-toy pile of extinct animals, POV found footage of the conflicts of a stray city cat, an Afrikaans childrenโ€™s radio story of a slave-trader smoking tobacco with the Devil on Table Mountain, a news broadcast laced with a droning emo riff.

Traversing through personal, political and biological tunnel systems asking whether it is us, or the world, that is evil.

โคท

Massive thanks to @benjamincarels @jade.esmee for the belief and joyful conversations, @waasinand @baroegm @hannah_schleifer @_heidi_____phiuh for being buildup fairy godparents, @longginus.alyandu for his beautiful performance, @biquet.studio for merch, @ledlettersamsterdam and Timo at @helloprint for making literal miracles happen, and @mondriaanfonds for being the financial background radiation that made this all possible.

And to every single person who came, from near and far, it means so much. Seeing so many smart, kind faces filled me with the conviction that these highly documented horrors are in the end outweighed 1000x by the billion small forgotten acts of love.
