I’ve always been asking God for signs. My friends know I’ve prayed for “billboard” kind of signs. But, He finds his ways 💛 Through fortune cookies, dragonflies in Juarez, and kind hearts, He shows up through them all. I received my papeles in July and wondered “what will August bring?” (Cringing as I look back because WHAT ELSE would I want… except for a pathway to citizenship for ALL).

Three weeks ago, in the middle of work I paused to look around. Everything felt perfect so I decided to write down my feelings on it. I flipped to the end of my work journal. And wow… I found an entry from 2024 that was pretty wishful on how I wanted my life would look and feel.

99.99% came true (✈️✨🌎🥹), except the dress part. She found out she doesn’t like to sew lol.

Thank you, God 💛 and everyone who has made space for this new Gabriela to emerge.

Still processing everything from the last 3 months 🌙 it’s a bag of emotions and the layers continue adding up. It’s layers of trauma, conflict, pausing, prayer, hope, and dreams. Parts of this system are still working and this gives me hope for loved ones 💛

Shoutout to my legal team and friends for helping us through this process for the last 5+ years (Miguel and Anna: Esperanza family foreverrrrr 😭). Thank you Victor + Amy for guiding us through the trip. Amy and baby Eva, we appreciate you so much for letting us borrow your dad for a few days as Steven and I navigated a whole new system and series of exams, documents, and the big interview in a different country✨

To both our families who supported us in several ways, and the loved ones who listened to our fears, plans, and preparation. If you supported with any emotional safety that was much needed: you will always stay in our hearts 😭🫶🏽

🫀 After 30+ years of being in limbo, I’m ready to start a new chapter.
