So, I get out of work later than usual tonight, and start walking toward the theater where I’ll be reviewing a new immersive show. Along the way, I come across a huge line, wrapped around the block, leading into a venue I’ve not noticed before.

It’s an eclectic crowd, excited, chatty, and oddly enough, wearing monochromatic colors. I ask someone what the line is for: Angine de Pointrine, playing one night at Underground Arts.

Now this band have become something of an obsession for me of late. Beyond talented. Incredible performances of hyper complex music. Other worldly music. It would be a dream to see them live, but I never assumed I’d get a chance. The show is totally sold out of course.

So I head to my theater show, and on the way back, go to the line, just in case there’s been any returns. None. Zip. Nada.

Another person in line hands me a handmade sign, and says good luck, it had worked for him. So… I wait around… and…

Brian. God bless Brian.

An extra ticket, free of charge.

Truly one of the most unforgettable nights of my life. Mind shatteringly good. My face hurts from the stank face. Insanity. Just… wow. taken in Underground Arts by @freddo321

Did something tonight I’ve not had a chance to do in almost 10 years, getting to play in an orchestra. In the midst of everything else going on, and the stresses of teaching and leading, I’d forgotten how much I love this, just getting to sit and be a part of the ensemble - here’s to more playing in 2026! by @freddo321

Back in early 2019 I had the privilege of getting to see the incredible #immersive piece, @brokenbonebathtub a show that I have used, countless times, as my go to example to describe the impact and importance of this unique medium for storytelling. It is a show that has stayed with me in such a beautiful way over the years.

Tonight I was delighted to be at the Philly premier of the Broken Bathtub Film. This behind the scenes look at the creation of this fantastic show was an honest, vulnerable and utterly moving peek into the life of a wonderful creative artist, and what it took to bring this show to life. @siobhansolo was yet again able to bring a collection of strangers together tonight, and turn us into a community, this time without a bathtub.

I can not recommend this beautiful film enough to fellow artists, creators and dreamers 🛁🫧🧼 taken in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by @freddo321

Home after a whirlwind music-making weekend back home in England! 🎺🛫🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

This year I was privileged to be selected as a semi-finalist for the 2025 Brass Band Conductors Association Competition. This meant I got to work with the incredible @hammondsband (formerly YBS Band) on a great test piece in the stunning @halifax_minster

I was thrilled to then be selected as a finalist, proceeding to work with the excellent Elland Silver Band on an item for their concert in the evening - one of my personal favorites, Les Miserables!

It was great to make music with these wonderful musicians, connect with some old colleagues, and to make a whole bunch of new friends at the same time - and to be able to bring home some silverware too was the icing on the cake!

Best of all though was getting to spend time with mum and dad, who have been such an incredible support to me throughout the years. So very lucky to have them as my ever present cheerleaders, both when at home and away.

Thanks @brassbandca for hosting this wonderful international event for Brass Band Conductors! taken in Halifax Minster by @freddo321

Looking forward to connecting with other immersive creators, artists, and producers from around the globe - and I will finally get to meet the west coast crew of @no_proscenium 🤩

Hit me up with recommendations of the best things to do, places to stay, and restaurants to check out around the downtown Pasadena area!
