@eliana.chinea & @jadesoulzuberi in conversation. Sharing this from @eliana.chinea's live. Jade came on and offered some crucial questions to white people in Black culture or Black justice movements. This is also relevant for any other culture we enter, for example yoga and Indian culture.

As white people we are offered praises, compliments, attention and opportunities like no other, when we enter cultural spaces that are not ours. Most often being only average in level while receiving more praise than the practitioners/locals of the culture itself who are excellent.

I have definitely experienced this for years and it has felt off to me for a long time, but I didn't completely understand why I felt that way. So thank you @jadesoulzuberi for explaining the hard truth, that we as white people have to consider how much space to take and how much attention we are drawing towards ourselves. If you learn from Jade, go and support his Patreon. There are subscriptions from 1$ and up.

As white people this is insanely problematic on our part, because we're entering spaces and dynamics that might not yet be decolonized and therefore might not yet be able to center and uplift primarily the melanated folks who are the culture bearers. It's on us as the historical colonizers to decenter ourselves and give space for culture to flourish on decolonized terms.

That doesn't mean we have to stay away, but there's a difference between attending a birthday party as a guest and dominating a birthday party to an extent where everybody forget who was having the birthday in the first place. We can practice culture for ourselves anytime and then be mindful when we're in cultural spaces BOTH online and offline.

There's a lot more to be said that can't fit into this caption today. Keep learning, take courses, apply knowledge.
Even Black people take anti-racism courses to learn more, so there's really no excuse for you to not do so as a white person. I don't care how many Black people you have in your family or social circle. That should be a motivation to always take more courses and apply more knowledge, not to let yourself off the hook. Because that is exceptionalism 😉 by @freedahau

This is not my best dancing in life, but I'm really proud I did it. I was moved, so maybe it will move something in you too ❤️

The story behind my dancing this day:
As dancers we love to say things like "let the dance speak" but sometimes there are words to be said. If I should let the dance speak, it just shows that I managed to express some of my feelings, but also that I was struggling emotionally and breathing wise. It looks like partial failure to me. I didn't win, I didn't succeed under battle standards. But I'm still proud because I battled despite bad news that threw me off mentally and despite breathing problems
because of a newer grief related asthma condition due to my father's passing.

It has always been difficult for me to compete in dance improvisation, because it's so vulnerable and personal. Although I love to compete in anything else. And even though I often wish I was a super inspiring dancer on battle dance floors, because I have been immemsely inspired by other dancers. I'm just not there yet and it's okay.

I also want to share the issue that threw me off, because it's important for the dance and clubbing communities. Especially those revolving around Black dances and music. I will share in the comments due to lack of space here.

Thank you to my beautiful opponent @abigailaura.v 🌺 It made me so happy and comfortable to share with you exactly, because of your calm and caring energy. Congrats on the win and all your solos!

Thank you @marie.kaae , @ejoewilson and @house.of.devotion for an amazing event! @dr.deebrown & @miracampau for the music. @marie_gumdrop for being the best wingbunny and camera-panda❤️ taken in Nørrebro by @freedahau

Dance is so much more than people think. And while it CAN be choreography or dance routines, it doesn't have to. The more improvisation / freestyle, the more therapeutic and healing it is.

For some it's disrespectful to dance while grieving, but really dance has the ability to heal, fuel and empower us, so why would we stay away from doing it?

Part of d3c0lonization is a revival of regular dancing in community. All peoples used to do it, including danish people. And some still do. It's important and necessary for humans to do ✨️✨️✨️ by @freedahau

Sharing what I love to do to remind you to do what you love and remain hopeful. I have suffered a lot of d3pression, but dancing always bring me back to life.

We can't do everything, all the time, every day. But we can each take action most days, inspire others by example and organize collectively to create an alternative and make a difference in our current reality. The world is falling apart but light shines through the cracks and we can build the new if we start today.

Use your skills, use your passion. Just don't stay passive and expect anything to change. We are the majority and we can make the change. It takes accountability, effort, patience, modesty and a lot of breaking up with what we've learned.

If you need support or inspiration, let me know. Let's come together and figure it out. I don't have all the answers, I just know that trying, failing and learning is better than doing nothing at all.
