Last term we had a session experimenting with some still life drawing, but making it a bit more Freefall!

We started by curative an alternative still life scene (it’s amazing what weird and wonderful treasures you can find in the books and crannies of @exeterphoenix), we did some slow drawing and watercolours of the scene and then moved onto some rapid-fire collaborative speed drawings (1mim, 45secs, 30secs) drawing on top of each others work creating these gloriously layered and chaotic creations!

A little flavour of what we got up to last year at Freefall!

New term starting Thursday, @exeterphoenix 6 - 8pm - 13 - 16’s

This term we’ll be;

- Mono Printing
- Looking at the Exeter Contemporary Open exhibition
- Looking at colour & painting, with help from some stage lighting (thanks @markjaspersound)
- Tie-dye and clothes modifications
- A spooky, arty scavenger hunt

The last Freefall before Easter was a bumper session! We started off making some newspaper plant pots and planting some of the seeds given to us by @the.photobook.project's Budding Friends gardening group. Sunflowers, Beans, Marigolds and Nasturtiums .

We then took a stroll down to the quay (thankfully the weather held out) to go to the exhibition opening of @artworkexeter's The Exchange at @exetercustomhouse.

We met artist @moll.saunders, had a look at the exhibition and had a go at some of the interactive elements!

The typewriter and the rat were popular!

Last Thursday Freefall started planning the podcast they will be making for local radio station, and Exeter’s Sound Alternative, @phonic.fm

We got to visit the radio station studio, John was kind enough to let us have a peak whilst he was covering Tom & Joe’s show and gave us some tips of the trade!

We had a great chat after, sharing songs, throwing about ideas that ranged from very silly to some more philosophical chat- all important though! Looking forward to recording next term!

Another great Freefall session on Thursday, exploring stop motion animation and green screen and editing, we even got to involve some of our clay creations into our videos!

Looking forward to sharing some of our videos soon!

We had a great first Freefall session of the term, @exeterphoenixgallery Curator Matt Burrows gave us a tour of the Natasha MacVoy exhibition, and we experimented with clay taking inspirations from the ceramics and bodily themes in the exhibition, but also letting the medium guide us, enjoying getting a bit messy!

We still have some room in Freefall, if you would like to try a taster session (although no 2 sessions are the same!) get in touch. taken in Exeter Phoenix by @freefallexeter

Freefall is our Youth Arts Group for 13 - 16yr olds - and it's back up and running for the new school year.

Working across a range of art forms and activities, Freefall encourages a lifelong enjoyment of the arts, by diving into the rich mix of exhibitions, festivals and events here at Exeter Phoenix - from visual art to animation, music and filmmaking.

The group aims to create a space to socialize, share ideas and opinions and develop creative projects together. Freefall has created group exhibitions in our Walkway Gallery and offers young people an opportunity to gain extra experience and skills in the arts.
