POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We had a great time with the guys from Freefall+ & @the_pelican_project looking at @bruceasbestos show, including seeing their film up on the big screen as part of Bruce’s Bootleg Shreg Showreel.
We finished up with an exclusive behind the scenes ‘Shregflation’ viewing before they went back to the studio to create their own green characters…

Still time to catch the show which closes on Saturday 20 June.

Reflecting on The Gifts Commission:

The Gifts is a socially-engaged, multisensory sculpture made by Tabatha Andrews for and with learning-disabled and neurodiverse communities of Exeter to form a lasting community legacy.

Co-created through the artist’s long-running relationship with Freefall+, it was commissioned by Exeter Phoenix as part of Tabatha’s wider, 2025 Arts Council funded project, The Slightest Gesture.

The work now resides under the care of The Pelican Project on Sidwell St, available for learning-disabled and neurodiverse communities of Exeter to access, use and enjoy.

You can read more about the commission in our recent blog - link in bio 🔗

Our brilliant Freefall+ art group have been exploring @sarah__ryder__ Multiferals exhibition before creating slippery foil paintings of their own.

In their own inimitably feral style, they smuggled them into the gallery yesterday to introduce them to Sarah’s own fantastic work!

The Freefall+ artists work with us in close partnership with @the_pelican_project

You can still catch Sarah’s show before it closes this Sat 31 Feb when Sarah is also giving a free artists talk at 12pm.

Exeter Phoenix staff enjoyed a sensory tour of The Slightest Gesture ~ an immersive exhibition by @tabathaandrews_art exploring touch, movement, and non-verbal communication.

Featuring tactile sculptures and moving images, developed collaboratively with learning-disabled and neurodiverse young adults from Freefall+ and South West Dance Hub, the exhibition transforms everyday gestures into powerful sensory art.

Showing NOW in our gallery space.
Open until 21 June, FREE entry.

We had a lovely time visiting our neighbour the Museum recently in Freefall Exeter finding some of our favourite exhibits and doing some drawing. We all enjoyed looking at the RAMM’s new show FOOD: Beyond the plate. On until 29th June.

At Freefall Exeter recently we had a tour from Matt showing us the Phoenix Galleries’ show Melanie Jackson: Hot Flash.

https://exeterphoenix.org.uk/events/melanie-jackson-hot-flash/

We particularly enjoyed the creative way the animals had been made in clay, and chatting about the history of how we have viewed animals. Inspired by this we made our animals from clay.

Recently at Freefall+ we were lucky to have private screening in the Exeter Phoenix cinema Studio 74 where we watched I am Martin Parr! The film really got us all taking about photography, including looking and sharing some of our own photos.

Our newest exhibitions are opening this weekend, and you’re invited to celebrate them with us! 🎉

Join us for the opening of Janet Sainsbury’s solo exhibition, The Gift of Nearness, plus our new Gallery 333 and Walkway shows this Saturday 6th July, 3pm - 5pm.

For Janet’s exhibition, an eclectic cast of characters are drawn from art history, literature and popular culture. They appear alongside several self-portraits made from photographs of her younger self, recently rediscovered in family albums, which weave in further layered ideas about identity, and our perceptions of the passage of time.

In Gallery 333 is Adam Garratt's Practice Rubble, a playful critique of the consumption and disposal of construction materials. Adam has repurposed a series of prints and brought them together here to represent a kind of artist’s rubble.

In the Walkway gallery find the annual exhibition of the Freefall and Freefall+ groups' work. This year they have been inspired by projects, exhibitions and films both here at Exeter Phoenix and across the City, as well as having the chance to work with practicing artists and creatives.
