Today is Giving Tuesday, which marks the start of our Freedom of Movement Matters fundraising campaign! Through the end of the year, we will be sharing with you a closer look into Free Migration Project’s work and why it matters that we collectively work towards freedom of movement as a human right. This year we have a goal of raising $25,000 and you can help us achieve more by donating or becoming a sustainer of our work today. Free Migration Project is at an important juncture where we are growing as an organization, your support makes a real difference for us. Consider donating any amount towards our $25,000 goal today by visiting the link in bio or freemigrationproject.org! In solidarity, Adrianna, Alex & Dave by @freemigrationproject
In the past we have made our stance as an organization on this issue clear. But once again we reiterate our solidarity with the Palestinian people. We see immigrant justice in the US as part of a bigger effort for liberation of oppressed people everywhere. Furthermore, Palestinians have been denied their freedom of movement for too long. Our mission, like our solidarity, extends beyond the U.S. borders. Thank you to our colleagues from @projectanar for putting the infographics and resources together. by @freemigrationproject
--- Join us to remember the lives cut short by Moshannon and ICE detention centers across the country. Together, we will honor those we've lost and demand: - ICE out of our communities, - Redirect ICE funding into communities that need it - Shut Down ALL ICE Detention Centers Since January 2025, at least 54 people have died in ICE custody — a record-breaking number in under two years. These official counts don’t capture the full picture: ICE has released people into unsafe conditions, or right before their deaths, only for them to die shortly after. Enough is enough. Shut it down. This vigil is a part of a national action with @detentionwatch , the End the ICE Age Campaign, and Disappeared in America. by @freemigrationproject

BIG WIN: A District Court has granted @the_ilrc and co-plaintiff’s motion to stay the Trump administration’s issuance of civil penalties under an emergency regulation issued in June 2025. This order stops the seizure of up to $84 BILLION in fines issued to more than 100,000 people. Our class action lawsuit - represented by partners at @publicjustice_, @legalaidnyc, @raicestexas, @freemigrationproject, Covington & Burling LLP, and the NYU Immigrant Rights Clinic - argues that this administration's move to revive a rarely-used provision in immigration law to issue fines of up to $998 *per day* is unlawful and unconstitutional. The district court agreed and ordered a stay of fines issued on or after June 27, 2025. This stay is limited to fines issued under Immigration and Nationality Act sections 240B, 8 U.S.C. § 1229(c) (voluntary failure to depart after a voluntary departure order – up to $9980) and 274D, 8 U.S.C. § 1324d (willful failure to depart after a removal order – up to $998/day for a total of over $1.8 million). The government cannot collect or enforce these fines while the case moves forward. We will continue to fight this administration’s attempts to terrorize families and hope that you will join us in raising awareness of the government’s goal of seizing hard-earned wages and lifelong assets from those simply seeking a better life in the United States for themselves and their families. by @freemigrationproject
The government cannot enforce approximately 90,000 immigration fines while our lawsuit challenging this practice moves forward, thanks to a new ruling by a federal court. We’ve been fighting back against the Trump Administration’s unprecedent scheme of imposing fines of up to $998 per day against immigrants pursuing lawful immigration relief. In a major victory for immigrant communities nationwide, the court said these practices are illegal, ruling that all fines issued after June 27, 2025, are “stayed” while the case moves forward. We look forward to building on this win and vindicating the rights of all those impacted by these predatory practices. by @freemigrationproject

As the Shut Down Detention Campaign we are disappointed and furious that Clearfield County has once again chosen to be complicit in human rights abuses, to be complicit in the violation of the constitution, to choose to work with an agency that has murdered people in cold blood. As Pennsylvanians from across the commonwealth, we fight for freedom and justice for our community. And we know that immigrant detention is in direct opposition to the values we hold most dear in our state; Justice, Freedom and Family. Immigrant Detention is always unjust, abusive and unnecessary; we are seeing this administration funnel our tax dollars to abuse our neighbors instead of investing in what we actually need: affordable education, housing, and healthcare. by @freemigrationproject

In partnership with Mavey Books, and Co-Sponsorship with Free Migration Project, CAIR-Philadelphia is hosting Mahmoud Khalil for an author talk on September 25, 2026, at the Friends Center in Philadelphia. This will be a ticketed event, with book sales supporting Khalil and his family during this difficult time. Link to purchase ticket in our Linktree. 🔸 Mahmoud Khalil is a Palestinian activist, writer, and graduate of the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. He has previously worked in development and international affairs with the United Nations, the British government, and several non-profit organizations in the Middle East. In March 2025, the Trump administration unlawfully arrested Khalil, transported him thousands of miles away to an ICE detention center in Louisiana, and attempted to deport him— all in retaliation for his advocacy in support of Palestinian rights. No Land to Stand On is Khalil's revelatory and powerful testament of protest, courage, and imprisonment in America's deportation regime. by @freemigrationproject
There’s enough evidence that exists that we have reason to believe that the Department of Homeland Security is planning to purchase the Moshannon Detention Center from GEO Group, something that would be further waste of our tax payer money, a loss of property taxes to Clearfield County, and would make an already dangerous situation to immigrants held there even more dangerous. We demand that the Clearfield county commissioners vote no on any contract extensions with GEO Group and DHS. We demand that the Department of Homeland Security release those detained in the Moshannon Detention Center. by @freemigrationproject
