It’s crazy how often we now reach for a rich Chenin Blanc when we once would have chosen Chardonnay. This one from @perdebergwinery was rich and textured, with ripe pear, yellow apple, citrus and vanilla. It’s made from barrel-fermented Chenin Blanc, with the oak and lees adding weight and a creamy texture. The 2024 vintage finishes fresh and slightly savoury, with bright acidity balancing the fruit and spice. There’s always time for bubbles before a flight! I’m ready to come home, but sampled some of this @champagnejosephperrier bubbly in the @feelfinnair lounge just before take off. It was fresh and lively, with green apple, pear, white peach and a delicate floral note.
A classic 35% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 30% Meunier blend, with around 20% reserve wines.
It spends 36 months ageing in the cellar, giving the wine a fine mousse, gentle brioche character and a crisp, tart finish. taken in Finnair Business Lounge by @friday_fizz

Lovely @pinkvalleywines bubbles, great food and plenty of rugby chat at @taaiboschestate for an @anchor_capital_ event hosted by the Stellenbosch branch. @mattpearceza was joined by his commentary-box partner Shimmy (@hanyani_shimange) and All Black legend @justinmarshallnz9 for a genuinely funny, interesting and revealing evening. What to say about the beautiful 2019 @ridgebackwines Cab Sauv? A wonderfully mature Paarl Cabernet, showing blackberry, plum, cedar, cigar box, tobacco, dried herbs, graphite and a touch of mint/eucalyptus, with impressive depth and a long, savoury finish. Extremely high quality and aged exceptionally well. The tannins were soft and effective rather than grippy, and I think this could easily have gone another five years and been just as good. Our biannual box from @dtkwines is always a welcome arrival. In the winter box, we received a bottle of Quest bubbly. This brut rosé Cap Classique hits you with a bright, crisp nose of fresh strawberries, raspberries, and sourdough bread. The wine has a pale salmon pink colour and pours with lively bubbles. It is dry and very fruit-forward, with clean red berries, mixed with a sharp splash of citrus zest on the palate. It has a surprisingly rich texture thanks to time on the lees. It finishes clean, tangy, and refreshing, making it an excellent pairing option for the sushi that we had! taken in Stellenbosch, Western Cape by @friday_fizz

The 2017 @lourensford ‘The Dome’ showed a lovely garnet colour, typical of a Merlot with some age. It was rich, smooth and beautifully developed, with plenty of flavour and balance. Delicious wine, and drinking very well right now - and a perfect pairing for our mushroom pasta! taken in Stellenbosch, Western Cape by @friday_fizz
