Superhuman has made the final 8... and I'm going to @the_writers_lab #NewYork

@frolic_films @otherprods @itg_ltd 🙌🏽

A development program design to support female screenwriters over 40 - supported by the likes of #MerylStreep, @nicolekidman and #NataliePortman, the Lab exists to amplify those voices - and for a good reason... Women over 40 make up 25% of the world’s population, yet were on the writing teams of just 12% of US films in 2025... and in the UK - the figures are less concrete but the BFI’s latest funding data shows that among feature films receiving BFI production funding in 2024–25, only 27% of writers were women. Now that fact blows my mind!!

@faysimone and @musclefactoryswinton I'm gonna need your expert input for the next draft!!

And a random shout out to @flownspace I re wrote this draft whilst on Flown sessions. Wouldn't have got it done without you...
Let's do this...

I’m a semi-finalist! 🙌🏽

Writing is a long game…

SUPERHUMAN is a love letter to my sister, @faysimone and to my mum, my dad and my Aunty Bella - who I loved... I started writing it seven years ago, and so much has changed since then. So much, in fact, that I’m a different person now… with a different head and a different heart.

Soooo ready to head to New York or LA this autumn with #Superhuman for @the_writers_lab.

@frolic_films / @otherprods

We did it!!

Thank you @amycudden, @kennydoughty, @joshua.c.d.green and @annaharg for all the notes, encouragement and love along the way.

Introducing Back in the Frame 📣

Having navigated career breaks as an independent producer I'm thrilled to be facilitating Reclaim the Frame's "Back in the Frame" Lab.

Applications are now open for this new six-month talent development programme supporting women and marginalised gender film directors and producers returning to work after a career break.

Delivered with support from Sony Pictures Television International Production, Back in the Frame responds to a significant challenge facing the UK screen industries: the loss of experienced mid-career talent due to caring responsibilities, health-related breaks, burnout and limited return-to-work pathways.

Participants will receive:

✨ Three in-person Labs in London
🤝 A bespoke one-to-one mentoring session
💬 Group coaching and peer support
🌐 Industry networking opportunities
🎥 Sessions with contributors from across development, commissioning, production, sales, distribution, legal and HR

The programme is free to apply for and participate in.

We're looking for experienced UK-based directors and producers working across fiction and documentary film who are ready to reconnect with the industry.

Out in Cannes with Camilla from @frolic_films who is here with her amazing slate. My film Superhuman is one of the projects she's been championing...

The film has been in development for years and Camilla has guided it with so much patience and intelligence to a place where the script is almost... finally... ready.

Cannes 2025 was a blast to be back on the Croisette with lots of friendly faces, and meeting lots of new ones from all over the world. Loved seeing my #breakingtheglassceiling crew, my Nordic and NZ friends, meeting new collaborators to make new films with.

I’m kind of allergic to posting, especially when I weigh up the perceived glamour and excess of our business compared to the utter devastation happening around the world, so this is coming late as ever.
But it also highlights the importance of film as a language to speak to the world, to shine a light, to share emotion, empathy and laugh, cry and gasp together. Feeling very lucky. A bientôt See you next year! by @frolic_films

Returning to my old uni: university of the arts London for the first time in 10 years since graduating from a BA in media & cultural studies. My dad laughed about paying all that money to get cultured, but here I am attending a pitching event as a film producer for their highly regarded MA Screenwriting students after crafting a career of nearly 20 years in the film & TV industry. Good luck to all the graduates, it’s inspiring to hear so many fresh ideas. 💡 by @frolic_films

That’s a wrap on #c21 #contentlondon 2024. It was a real pleasure to be surrounded by the can do energy of international producers and creatives, catching up with old colleagues and industry pals and making new ones. The Next Generation US producers panel was truly inspiring to see such a dynamic and collegiate group of successful women. Take note U.K tv industry … And the icing on the cake was One Day winning Best Miniseries at the #c21awards, congratulations to all the winners and well done to all the nominees. Here’s to a productive 2025 💻🎥📺✨ by @frolic_films

Nomination alert 🚨 Huge props to all the cast and crew on AFRICAN QUEENS: NJINGA the Netflix series that I had the honour of being Story Producer on, which is nominated for no less than 12 Daytime Emmy Awards!! ⚡️What a team! ⚡️

Special shout out to the writing duo @peresowino @nnenneuk and director @aguadecocogirl who are absolute stars ✨ And the powerhouse @nutopiatv

It was even more meaningful helping tell this powerful story when I discovered during development that part of my Creole ancestry hails from Angola at the time of Njinga. Mind blown. So all the love for this series and this team.

Three years ago I met with Diane Abbott along with Expectation TV to discuss making a TV single drama about her remarkable and historic victory to become the UK’s first ever black MP in 1987. The drama was to coincide with the 35 year anniversary and the release of her autobiography. It’s unbelievable that we only gained our first black member of parliament so recently. What’s sadly believable is that none of the broadcasters wanted to make the show despite it being a story that clearly needs to be told. Diane is a trailblazer, an amazing role model and an icon.
If you don’t know her story and what she’s accomplished then read Diane Abbot: The Authorised Autobiography
