Some gorgeous freshly harvested flower bunches out on the stand this morning. My friend Silvia @fromtheforest_vt has so kindly harvested, prepped, and bunched the flowers for this week while I am on vacation in the Adirondacks. All profits from today’s sales go to her because she is a superstar for doing this while I relax 😎. Come by and support her and local AG. by @fromtheforest_vt

This Friday, I am pleased to have one of my photos included in the @bakeryphotocollective 's 25th Annual Photo A-GoGo Fundraiser (Auction, Exhibition, Party). I am looking forward to seeing everyone's photographs and being invigorated to pick up my camera again.

-January Storm. Jan 15, 2024-
There can be so many moods for this photo. To me, it was a melancholy walk with an air of quiet, calm as myself and others were peeping the storm damage from the rain and astronomical high tides (if only it were snow). taken in Eastern Promanade by @fromtheforest_vt

✨️Get outside on Tuesday 10/21 in honor of my dear friend, Tracy. Spend part of the day like Tracy would focusing on friendship, community and nature while hiking, paddleboarding, yoga, skiing or snowboarding, foraging, crafting, relaxing with a book... whatever you do, shine bright like Tracy.

Grief, like life, is not linear. I find myself processing the grief of losing my Father at the same time of year where Tracy and I celebrated our revolutions around the sun.

I was going to share this montage honoring Tracy after her celebration of life last October. Tracy and I often found our life transitions synchronous. I miss talking to her about them.
...
🧡Tracy's bright light is always right before us, ever present, pulsing and filled with indescribable love.

Dancing through the leaves,
Warming our skin softly while we soak up the sun,
Creating mezmerizing illuminations across
gentle water and freshly fallen snow,
Beaming warmly with each sunrise, sunset, shooting star, or glimpse of aurora.

She is here, all around us, encouraging us to be who we truly are meant to be and cheering us on. She was soulful- living her life authentically, with intention, compassion, curiosity, integrity, joy and that innate sense of wonder and willingness to try new things (jobs, places, sports, experiences, friendships).

I'm thankful for all that she shared with me- she taught me so much. I hold Tracy and all her loved ones deep in my heart. ❄️🌲 Until we meet again may the powder runs be deep, and the trees for hammocks be aplenty in the ecosystems of the great beyond my dear friend. 💗🦄🌈

📸 many of the beautiful portraits were taken by friends. The hot air balloon video was supposed to play sound where she and I both were saying, "Woowwwww".

My father, René, passed away this past Saturday.  It sure is a lot quieter without him here. These few photos are from a video outake we took last May explaining the cherry tree to relatives in Germany.

Please share any stories you have below, or on his obituary on the Mahar Funeral Home website.

🤍 Calling hour will be Monday, October 6th from 9:30-10:30am at the EP Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington.

At 11am, Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church on Main St, Bennington.

Burial with Military Honors will follow (~12 ish) at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. A reception will be held back at Sacred Heart St Francis de Sales Parish Center.

Soaking up the last summer rays. I am grateful for opportunities to be creative, observe the details, and making room for pauses to breathe in and out deeply. May we all come together to care and stand up for one another and our precious planet.

"The summer ends, and it is time
To face another way. Our theme
Reversed, we harvest the last row
To store against the cold, undo
The garden that will be undone.
We grieve under the weakened sun
To see all earth’s green fountains dried,
And fallen all the works of light.
You do not speak, and I regret
This downfall of the good we sought
As though the fault were mine. I bring
The plow to turn the shattering
Leaves and bent stems into the dark,
From which they may return. At work,
I see you leaving our bright land,
The last cut flowers in your hand."

We should be vigilant about giving up our public lands to private owners. Public lands history isn't pretty. It is imperative to recognize the injustices that happened to create public AND private lands in America due to settler colonialism (assimilation & relocation, genocide, enslaved peoples, resource over-extraction). Public lands existence is not communist (no matter what Mike Lee says) ⛰️ We have the right to participate in public comment related to public lands.

As Americans,we benefit from public lands every day even if you never set foot on them. Many support clean, healthy, connected watersheds, wildlife corridors, and recreation areas (which provide tourism dollars to adjacent rural and urban communities). I stewarded a "Wilderness" area. It is not on the chopping block, but most everything surrounding it is. 😵‍💫

The current Senate Bill brought the rejected House bill back worse with more than 250 million acres on the chopping block. By including it in this bill, it bypasses WE the people and rolls back environmental regulations for the developer/extraction industry.

What Can You Do:
1) Call your realtor, err, Senator ASAP (especially ME, PA & NC and UT). Tell them, "I strongly oppose the sell off of public lands in the Senate Energy Committee’s budget bill and any bill that has provisions to sell public lands. These lands are critical for public access, healthy ecosystems, and future generations and should not be sold to fund tax cuts benefiting a small percentage of Americans." Add your personal "why" public lands.
☎️ 202-224-3121 or use @5calls. 📢

2) Contact the Senate Energy Committee: https://www.energy.senate.gov/contact-us

3) Share this post or similar or make your own. Help your friends understand what’s at stake.

Violet lemonade with my neighbor. My favorite spring tradition of harvesting violets to blend into lemonade- a pH dazzling drink to share. It honors my love of pigments, violets, science, and the shift of spring into summer. by @fromtheforest_vt

Bluets in the mist. Springtime is when I spend a lot of time tuning in with my eyes, ears and nose. Spring ephemeral flowers, songbirds returning, amphibians making peeps, and lately, the sound of raindrops and little stream rivulets. I spotted my first lilacs and loons over lunch while loons looked for theirs. taken in Maine by @fromtheforest_vt
