A very ha(r)py first week of school from the FSU Harp Studio 🥳

We kicked off the semester by decorating lesson journals in studio class 🎨, discussing biomechanics and exercising our 5th fingers in Harp Pedagogy Class 💪, and testing out our ✨new and improved✨ studio layout to accommodate our growing studio! We are happy to be back together and for the excitement that a new school year brings (like new studio mates 🥰 and a new harp class!). Stay tuned for all the harp happenings this semester and look out next for our annual studio intros…👀 by @fsuharp

a belated thank you to “The President’s Own” US Marine Band harpist Taylor Fleshman for working with our harpists this past week!

Margaret Anne knows it doesn’t get more fun than performing Salzedo’s Ballade at 9 AM on a Monday… 🙃

🪉 FSU harpists out in the community! 🪉

Our Harp Pedagogy class gave a fantastic presentation to local elementary school students as part of the inaugural @musicfsu Day of Community Music on Oct 12 🎶

The kids were super excited to learn about the harp, and everyone got a chance to play at least one ✨magical✨ glissando on the pedal harp and test their newly learned harp knowledge on one of our kid-friendly Harpsicles.

Upcoming @fsuharp community events:
- Nov 4: Kristan Toczko at Cornerstone Learning Community
- Nov 9: FSU Harp Recital at Westminster Oaks

thank you Ben Mitchell @kco_music and Jeff Stern @icarusquartet for giving their entrepreneurship talk “Building and Sustaining a Performing Ensemble” this morning!

we learned about the importance of aligning values at every stage of an ensemble’s development, when money matters (and when it doesn’t as much), and how to leverage resources between and beyond an ensemble’s stakeholders.

Our next entrepreneurship coffee hour will be on Monday, Nov 2: vocal ensemble ModernMedieval will talk about building an ensemble’s repertoire through early and new music.

Graduate students in existing chamber ensembles are encouraged to attend; contact Dr. Wan @nywharp for details.

Plus! One of the Ensemble Development Lab’s duos @infinitetapestryduo got to work with KCO violinist Zoë Martin-Doike (also MET violist & founding member of the Aizuri Quartet) yesterday evening.

Psst… Infinite Tapestry will be making its official FSU debut this semester, performing Daniel Temkin’s “Time Capsule” in the upcoming Polymorphia concert 🤩 by @fsuharp

Safe to say we are exhausted at the end of the day 🥱

Come along with studio members Ava (Biology + Music, 27’) and Noa (MIS + Music, 26’) for an average day! Here at FSU, students can customize their degree plans to make a path that fits their unique career goals.

Interested in our studio, or what it looks like to double major/ dual degree / minor in music? Shoot us a DM or an email! 📚#harp #fsu #musicstudent #auditions #musicfsu by @fsuharp
