Hollister Police Union Warns Civilian Layoffs Could Disrupt Department Services

HOLLISTER, Calif. — The Hollister Police Officers Association is warning of major service disruptions after announcing that City Manager Ana Cortez intends to lay off all civilian employees at the police department.

In a press release, the association said the layoffs were expected to take effect at 9 a.m. the following morning, affecting records, code enforcement, building and fleet maintenance, patrol community service officers and evidence personnel.

The association warned the cuts would leave the department without staff responsible for answering phones, releasing reports, processing impounded vehicle releases and preparing case reports for submission to prosecutors.

“We are effectively closed for business,” the association stated, describing the anticipated impact on department operations.

The union also questioned the city’s intention to fill seven police officer vacancies while eliminating civilian support positions, arguing that officers depend on those employees to keep essential services functioning.

The association urged residents to contact elected officials and voice opposition to the proposed cuts.

The supplied release did not include a response from city officials or an explanation for the proposed layoffs.

🤢🚨 25 YEARS IN PRISON! THIS PARAMEDIC TOOK “DON’T TRUST YOUR COWORKER’S FOOD” TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL!

MARYLAND — You might want to think twice before using the office coffee creamer or ice machine after hearing this one! 🤮

Christopher M. Carroll, 36, a Baltimore County paramedic, was sentenced to 25 YEARS IN PRISON on October 13, 2026, after pleading guilty to three counts of causing others to ingest his bodily fluids.

According to court records, Carroll contaminated workplace food, coffee creamer, an ice machine and office equipment with urine and semen at fire department facilities in Pikesville and Towson.

😳 AND IT GETS WORSE!

Investigators say he actually RECORDED himself committing these disgusting acts and posted videos online, reportedly hoping to make money!

At least 16 employees used the contaminated ice machine before the situation was discovered.

Authorities recovered DNA evidence linking Carroll to contaminated items. The department reportedly spent more than $260,000 on cleanup and equipment replacement.

Carroll apologized in court, but the judge wasn’t buying a slap on the wrist.

☕ Imagine finding out your morning coffee came with an ingredient that was DEFINITELY NOT on the label! 🤢

All jokes aside, these firefighters and paramedics trusted their coworker, and that trust was seriously violated.

⚖️ WHAT DO YOU THINK? Was 25 years an appropriate sentence, or should he have received even more time?

Hollister Police Officers Association Press Release

The Hollister Police Officers Association was notified earlier this evening that tomorrow, City Manager Ana Cortez, intends to lay off every single civilian staff member of our department. We won’t have a records division, we won’t have a code enforcement division, we won’t have a building and fleet maintenance division, we won’t have patrol CSOs, and we won’t have anyone in our evidence section to help process evidence. No one will answer the phones. No one will release reports. No one will release vehicles that have been towed or impounded. If we arrest someone, there’s no one to process the report based on law and deliver to the district attorney’s office. There’s no one to pay our PG&E bill. We are effectively closed for business as of 9 o’clock tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, the city still intends on filling seven police officer vacancies. You can hire as many police officers as you want, but if there’s no civilian staff to help keep the lights on and keep the reports being processed, all the police officers in the world aren’t going do justice for our citizens.

The men and women of the Hollister Police Officers Association are begging the community to use your voice. Let your elected officials know that this is unacceptable.

News media is reporting that Texas Attorney General and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ken Paxton is facing scrutiny following reports that he attended a New Year’s Eve celebration in Dubai with two men described as fugitives from U.S. justice.

The Wall Street Journal reported that video from the December 31, 2024, gathering shows Paxton and his girlfriend, Tracy Duhon, watching fireworks from a high-rise balcony overlooking Dubai’s Burj Khalifa. Healthcare executives Anosh Ahmed and Sameer Suhail were also reportedly present.

Federal court in Illinois indicted both men months earlier. Prosecutors accused them and a third defendant of participating in a scheme that allegedly diverted more than $15 million from a Chicago hospital through fraudulent vendor payments. Ahmed later faced charges related to an alleged COVID-19 testing fraud scheme.

The criminal allegations remain unresolved. Ahmed and Suhail have since returned to the United States and pleaded not guilty. Ahmed is reportedly in custody. An attorney for Suhail told the Journal that civil matters in Dubai had prevented him from traveling and that he returned voluntarily after those issues were resolved.

Campaign-finance records reviewed by the Journal reportedly show Ahmed contributed $190,000 to Paxton’s political campaign, including $25,000 shortly after his indictment.

Paxton’s senior adviser, Nick Maddux, did not directly address the Dubai gathering, instead saying Paxton has faced years of political persecution and that voters continue supporting him because of his record fighting for Texas. Paxton’s campaign also did not respond to requests for comment from KSAT.

Democratic Senate opponent James Talarico criticized Paxton over the report, which surfaced as their watched Texas Senate contest approaches early voting.

The video does not establish that Paxton committed a crime or knew the men’s legal status. However, critics say the reported gathering raises serious questions about the judgment.

Neither man has been convicted, and all persons are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Georgia Police Officer Fatally Shoots Beloved Miniature Donkey During Search for Missing Child

GEORGIA — A Georgia police officer has been placed on administrative leave after fatally shooting a beloved 1-year-old miniature donkey named HeeHaw while officers were searching a farm for a missing child.

According to a report attributed to Fox News, newly released police body-camera footage shows HeeHaw approaching officers during the search. One officer reportedly attempted to use a Taser before another officer fired his weapon, striking the small animal.

The wounded donkey ran away before collapsing in a nearby field, where he died.

The officer involved reportedly claimed that HeeHaw was charging toward police, presenting a potential threat. However, the donkey’s devastated owner disputes that account, insisting that HeeHaw was a friendly animal who routinely approached people.

The shooting has raised questions about the officers’ response and whether deadly force was necessary against the young animal.

The officer who fired the fatal shot has reportedly been placed on administrative leave while state investigators examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation is expected to determine whether the officer’s actions were justified and whether department policies were followed.

The case highlights concerns about how law enforcement officers respond to encounters with domestic animals and whether additional training could prevent similar tragedies.

@sheriffchitwood It was another beautiful morning for a search warrant, this time at the Coastal Chalet of Holly Hill. On our visit to this 4-star establishment we found drugs, guns, and felons who got to come out and enjoy the morning air. The rocket launch overhead was a nice bonus. 👍🏼
