Throughout October we are hosting 3 youth music recording and production workshops thanks to the funding and support from @musicounts and @lm_halifax .

We kicked it off last week with an "Introduction to Recording and Production" with @breaghisabel. Groups started projects from scratch, recording real and virtual instruments, vocals, and practiced some basic editing and mixing techniques.

Funk Island Lab is excited to announce our 3-part Youth Recording and Production Workshop Series!

Taking place in Halifax October 3, 10 and 24, this FREE interactive series will help students elevate their skills in taking a song from idea to finished track! We will cover recording basics, advanced editing / production techniques, and mixing and mastering. All recording equipment (including laptops with Logic Pro X production software) will be provided.

Whether you have studio experience, or you simply want to know how to make demos of your songs at home, this series is for you!

We are thrilled to announce our instructors for this series will be @breaghisabel, @guestroomrecords and @coreylerue - all award-winning producers and engineers behind some of your favourite music.

✨ Applications are now open, spaces are limited, and you can find the link in our bio, or at funkislandlab.ca ✨

Thanks to @musicounts and @lm_halifax for helping us make this happen. taken in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada by @funkislandlab

Out everywhere today. “Quicksand” was written on the last day of a @funkislandlab and @brilliantlabslaboscreatifs songwriting camp at the @saltytowersnb in Saint Andrews, New Brunswick with my good friend @chrisfnkirby and a student participant @clairablanchardmusic

I love how this one came together seamlessly in the @thesonictemple studio with @geoffarsenault creating all that texture, @ronjoehynes with the heartbeat, and @parachutemastering working magic as always. Big team effort on this one and I couldn’t be more proud. Hope you enjoy.

✨ Big News ✨

We are excited to annouce that Funk Island Lab Music Society was one of the successful applicants for the 2025 @siriusxmcanada Soundwaves @MusiCounts Community Fund.

This program enabled us to purchase four music production stations, including MacBooks with Logic Pro, microphones, MIDI controllers, audio interfaces, headphones, and studio monitors.

The funding will also support upcoming workshops in production, engineering, and mixing/mastering.

We’re incredibly grateful for this support and excited to offer enhanced, hands-on learning experiences for songwriting students across Atlantic Canada.
