There’s a lot that can make your world feel smaller and shrink your sense of possibility.

Landon Caldwell wants to do the opposite.

Landon hopes his project Good Work will leave audiences with an expanded sense of curiosity and wonder. Not only do artists help us interpret and understand the past, but they also help us imagine and realize new futures.

According to Landon, that’s what all artists should be striving to do.

GOOD WORK An opera by Landon Caldwell with music by Rob Funkhouser
Premiering October 23 & 24 at the Contemporary Art Museum of Indianapolis.

Good Work is a five act opera for voice, movement, ensemble, and video, drawn from collective memory, vernacular, and the Midwestern psyche. It examines family objects, regional folklores, medieval Welsh prophecy, and oral history. Built on the legend of Myrrdin Wylt, Good Work asks what it means to dissolve into a place and to find yourself in service to others.

Funded by the Indianapolis Creative Risk Fund, a program of the Herbert Simon Family Foundation.

Filming with composer, instrument builder, percussionist, and overall creative genius Rob Funkhouser today! is taking music creation to a whole new level. The glass organ he constructed is one of only a handful in the world.

So amazing to see what you can do with music when you mix in tons of creativity, innovation, and a unique ability to see the world around you differently. Going to be a great episode!

We will performing to original compositions by members of Sound Ecologies, which commissions and promotes newly composed concert music by Indianapolis-area composers. The new pieces will be played live by Sunset Syndicate, a saxophone quartet. Performers/Choreographers include: Lauren Curry, André Williams of Relevations Dance Theatre, & Bethany Bak.

I am excited to share that Forward Motion is performing at the Indy Fringe Festival again this year! Our show, Sympathetic Resonance, is a premiere of a new piece that is comprised of 6 miniature acts, each written by a different composer and spotlighting a specific instrumentalist.

The overall effect poetically demonstrates the bold uniqueness of each voice through the non-verbal aesthetic of music, and ultimately leads to the realization of how human expressions can be both an individual accomplishment as well as a contribution to the collective.

We need your help, though: this event is funded exclusively through ticket sales, meaning if we don’t sell tickets we won’t get paid. I would love to see you attend one of the three performances we are offering of this show. Tickets are $22, and if you can’t attend please please please help us spread the word to any music lovers you know by sharing this post, commenting on it, or forwarding it to a friend.

Our performance slots are: Tuesday August 18 at 8pm, Thursday August 20 at 8pm, and Saturday August 22 at 6:30pm, and we are performing at The Basile Theatre at Indy Fringe. I haven’t been this excited about a performance project in a while, so please come and listen to what we’ve been working on!

@franknsteam is staying home today and you should too. It’s too hot! The concerts being canceled which is the right call for everyone working, and we don’t need any old folks heat stroking in lawn chairs.
