It’s First Friday and this week we’re excited to introduce and thank our downtown friends at J&S New York Pizza! I’m Lori Shaver, co-owner of @jandsnewyorkpizza alongside my siblings, Philip Cammarata and Ven Cammarata. Our parents, Josephine and Silvio, are both natives of Sicily. They came to America separately to chase the American Dream, met in New York, married, and started our family. We relocated to North Carolina in 1995 and opened our first J&S location in Apex. On October 26, we’ll celebrate 19 years in Fuquay-Varina! After encouragement from our Apex customers, we opened J&S here in 2007 and quickly fell in love with the Varina district. We’re proud to be located in what was once called “Varina” before it merged with Fuquay Springs. After nearly 19 years, we’re still proud to call it home! J&S is a family-owned Italian pizzeria, restaurant and bar, and we’re proud to have kept the same recipes that came from our parents all these years. We use fresh ingredients, get produce from the farmers market each week, make our dough fresh every day, cut our cheese daily, and make our sauces from scratch. And we’re still very much a family business — you’ll even find our children working in our restaurants! One of my favorite things about downtown is seeing people out walking, shopping and enjoying everything our two downtown districts have to offer. First Friday is especially amazing, and I love seeing our local shops, bars and restaurants supporting one another. One of our favorite downtown events is the Celebrate Fuquay-Varina concert held right in front of our store. We love having everyone gathered together and enjoying live music, and I wouldn’t complain if we added another one! We’re proud to be Friends of the FVDA because we love how much they do for our downtown businesses and how involved they are in helping our community thrive. It’s wonderful to be part of an association that truly supports local businesses and wants to see us succeed. Thank you, J&S, for being such an important part of our downtown family for the past 19 years! ❤️ 📍 500 E. 🎉It’s Friend Friday, and today we’re excited to thank and introduce our new Friend, Michelle Thompson of @pediatricconnections ! hi, I’m Michelle Thompson, Founder and Clinical Director at Pediatric Connections, located inside Fuquay Works at 201 E. Academy St. I’m a pediatric speech-language pathologist with more than 30 years of experience, and after moving to Fuquay-Varina last summer, I decided it was time to take the leap and open my own practice. I opened Pediatric Connections in February, and my first year has been wonderful. This community has been so welcoming, and I’m excited to become an even bigger part of Fuquay-Varina. At Pediatric Connections, I provide speech - language and feeding therapy for children, along with parent coaching to give families practical tools they can use at home. I also offer early learning programs for toddlers and preschoolers. What I love most is building genuine connections with families and helping children grow in confidence. I have two offices inside Fuquay Works, which has been a great home for my practice. Since moving here last summer my husband and I have been so busy and are now looking forward to discovering the area more and exploring more of Downtown Fuquay-Varina, attending local events and becoming a more permanent part of this wonderful community. I wanted to become a Friend of FVDA because I love the idea of being involved in the community and supporting the events that bring people together. In fact, one of the first places we visited after moving to Fuquay-Varina was the FVDA office after having lunch downtown! I’m excited to be both personally and professionally connected to this community and look forward to getting to know more of the people and businesses that make Fuquay-Varina such a special place. 📍 Pediatric Connections | 201 E. 🎉It’s Friend Friday and today we are excited to introduce and thank our new friends Scott & Caitlin Anglin owners of Prickly Bear! Hi, we’re Scott and Caitlin the owners of Prickly Bear Snoballs & Bayou Ice, a frozen dessert trailer serving authentic New Orleans Snoballs and Bayou Ice, our creamy Italian ice! Prickly Bear LLC was established in 2022, and we were excited to open the dessert trailer side of our business in August 2026. We’re located at Baucom Business Plaza alongside several other food trucks, creating a fun little gathering spot that hosts monthly events and is also available for community and private events. When we say our Snoballs are authentic New Orleans Snoballs, we mean it! Scott, is originally from the New Orleans area and grew up eating Snoballs, and we wanted to bring the flavors and experience he remembers growing up with right here to Fuquay-Varina. A great day in Downtown for us means great weather, lots of people out walking around, families enjoying everything Downtown has to offer, and a community event bringing everyone together. Of course, a Snoball in hand makes it even better! Our favorite Downtown event is Trick or Treat Downtown. We love seeing Downtown packed with families and children in costume. It’s such a fun community event and Halloween gives us an excuse to get a little creative with Prickly Bear and our treats! We want Prickly Bear to be more than just a place to grab a dessert. Becoming a Friend of FVDA gives us the opportunity to connect with other local businesses, participate in community events, and become more involved in everything happening in Fuquay-Varina.
