Banned Books Week, starting today, is an annual event that spotlights the freedom to read and draws attention to the harms of censorship. The books that have been challenged most in the U.S. cover a range of subject matters. Some may surprise you. We've put together a list in our catalog of the most challenged and banned titles of the 21st Century, as collected by the American Library Association. Find the link in our bio. #LetBooksBe #BannedBooksWeek by @fvrlibraries

Today is #NationalBluebirdOfHappinessDay! We just learned of this today and we're not sure if this is just one special bluebird or all bluebirds who qualify for the happy title. What we do know is that FVRLibraries territory is home to the Bluebird Capital of the World. Yes, Bickleton, Washington holds that distinction. It's also home to the Bickleton Carousel Museum (free by booking with our Experience Pass in advance), and is on the FVRLibraries bookmobile route. So many things to be famous for! Peak time to see the bluebirds is Mid-May through June, but our bookmobile visits year-round. #BickletonWA #KlickitatCounty by @fvrlibraries

At 98, Abner Gaston Jr., an African American Texas native who learned to read in segregated schools, completed the San Diego Public Library's summer reading challenge for the second year running, enjoying favorites like "Green Eggs and Ham" alongside a room full of elementary schoolers. He earned his certificate and already promised he'll be back to do it again at 99, proof that the joy of learning has no age limit. What an inspiration he must be for the kids. We hope he completes the program for many more summers! #LibraryLife
