Last year, we came together, shared laughter, made new connections, and built relationships that are still growing today. ❤️

That’s the power of women coming together. One conversation can spark a friendship, a collaboration, or an opportunity that lasts.

This year, we’re building on those connections and creating room for even more possibilities.

The film industry is changing.
Not quietly. Not gradually.

From conversations around financing and distribution to artificial intelligence, intellectual property, streaming, international markets and the future of African storytelling, the questions facing filmmakers today are bigger than simply, “How do we make the film?”

We are asking:

Who is funding it? Who owns it? Who gets to see it? Who gets paid? And whose stories are being given the opportunity to travel?
The future of African cinema will not be shaped only on set. It will be shaped in boardrooms, marketplaces, festivals, classrooms, policy rooms and conversations between creators, investors and industry leaders.

So perhaps the bigger question for all of us is:
Are we still thinking about filmmaking only as a creative process, or are we beginning to think about the industry as an ecosystem? by @fwiftnigeria

IN MEMORIAM | OLUDOTUN BAIYEWUN JACOBS, MFR

Some lives leave a mark. Some legacies become part of the very fabric of an industry.

Today, we mourn the passing of Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs, MFR, a true giant of Nigerian theatre, television and film whose remarkable career spanned generations.

Through his craft, excellence and unwavering dedication to the arts, he helped shape the industry we know today. His presence on screen, his mastery of his craft, and the knowledge and inspiration he passed on to generations of creatives will not be forgotten.

His was a life of immense contribution, and his legacy will continue to speak through the countless lives and careers he touched.

As Women in Film and Television, we mourn with our President, and the entire Jacobs family. We stand with you, we honour his life, and we celebrate the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind.

May we all observe one minute of silence in honour of a life that gave so much to our industry.
May his soul rest peacefully. 🕊️

5 THINGS EVERY FILMMAKER SHOULD LEARN EARLY.
Especially if you’re building a career in the Nigerian film industry.

1. Learn the business. Filmmaking isn’t only about creativity. Understand budgets, financing, negotiation, distribution and how money moves around a production.

2. Know your rights. Understand contracts, copyright, ownership, credits, licensing and revenue sharing. Don’t wait for a dispute before learning what you signed.

3. Build relationships. Film is collaborative. Build genuine connections with writers, actors, producers, crew and other industry professionals. Your network can become your creative community.

4. Understand production. You don’t have to master every department, but learn the basics of camera, sound, lighting, editing, continuity and scheduling. It makes you a better collaborator.

5. Think beyond the film. Finishing the film is only part of the journey. Learn about festivals, screenings, publicity, distribution and audience building.

The goal isn’t just to make films. It’s to understand the industry well enough to build a career from them. 🎥

Which one do you think filmmakers learn too late?
Save this and share it with a filmmaker. ❤️
