Earlier this year, we bid farewell to Semua House and moved SYNC Pavilion to its second location with a fresh new layout, contrasting its previous setup. Catch SYNC in its latest form before we move again!

SYNC Pavilion is now at @pavilionbukitjalil , Tokyo Town entrance, beside Tsutaya.

A big thank you to our collaborators @sabe_ucsi and @makelabucsi for their support in the move and setup.

When moving SYNC Pavilion, we noticed marks left behind on its surfaces—traces of people who used it. We imagined quiet moments: resting, scrolling with a drink, a quick lunch, a midday snack.

SYNC wasn’t just a structure; it held interactions and stories. As it moved, we documented what was left behind—small remnants of its time at Semua House.

Here’s what remained.

To simplify setup, we created a build manual for the SYNC Pavilion at Semua House. Designed for two large modules, it included labeled pieces and step-by-step instructions to guide non-experienced users.

We tested it on colleagues with no prior knowledge, refining it based on their feedback. The final manual worked well, making assembly smoother. However, due to the time and effort required, we didn’t recreate it for the next setup.

Although SYNC Pavilion has successfully launched and is now in public use, its production journey was not without challenges.

One of our biggest setbacks occurred during the CNC cutting of SYNC modules. The laminated plywood interfered with the machine, causing it to go off-route and resulting in the loss of two plywood boards.

This forced us to reassess our approach, consult with our CNC contact, and refine our drawing arrangements to ensure we had enough modules for the final design. by @fzerolab

That’s a wrap for SYNC Pavilion at Semua House! From 12 November to 6 January 2025, SYNC Pavilion made its debut, and we’re thrilled with the positive reception it received from the public over the past months.

A big thank you to @semuahousekl for hosting SYNC Pavilion, and to @sabe_ucsi and @makelabucsi for their invaluable help with the setup!

From a 3D-printed model to a real-life build, SYNC Pavilion. Each SYNC layout is carefully tailored to its specific context and site. As with any architectural project, we began by measuring and observing the site, then translating these into dimensions, drawings, and models to guide our planning.

This particular layout went through multiple short sessions of exploration and fine-tuning, with several iterations to ensure there were no errors in the final design. SYNC Pavilion - Semua House edition, available now til 6th of January. Don’t miss out on it before we change to our next location!

SYNC Pavilion is a modular urban furniture piece designed to adapt to its surroundings. To aid in designing and testing different layouts, the team has been working with a 1:10 scale 3D-printed model of SYNC.

We also held a design session with students from UCSI’s School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE) @sabe_ucsi and Makelab @makelabucsi , inviting them to experiment with configurations and explore creative possibilities for SYNC Pavilion.

Sync Pavilion mock-up bench, first edition. The result was promising and helped refine our concept. However, the plywood’s darker-than-expected color and unpatched holes in the hardwood didn’t fully meet our aesthetic goals. This session also allowed us to test the most effective assembly methods, giving the team valuable insights into guiding future builds more efficiently.

We hosted our first mockup session with students from UCSI University’s School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE), @sabe_ucsi and Makelab, @makelabucsi to test key aspects of the SYNC Pavilion. This included assessing the CNC workmanship with plywood, material quality, assembly timing, design flexibility, module strength, and ease of assembly—along with identifying any overlooked issues.

The students joined as both manpower and test subjects, experimenting with different assembly methods for two modules to understand the design and test the bench’s strength. The completed bench is now in happy use at our office, replacing one of our oldest pieces of furniture.
