It's been a while since we hosted a show in Gallery Starling. Come see four musicians figure out what to do when the most backlining they'll need to do is choose a chair. Playing: Owen Shepcaro, G. Himsel, Maddy Kas & Jestin Adams! We'll be running this one without mics too.

“Songs of Doubt & Despair” is streaming everywhere today. You can listen to it on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and all those platforms if ya like. 👂
.
If you prefer to own stuff, you can download it on Bandcamp, or buy it on CD. After a few days it’ll turn up in your mailbox. 👁️
.
If you’re a neighbor, you can also just walk right up to me and ask about it. I might have one in my bag. 🚶 taken in Portsmouth, New Hampshire by @g.himsel

So in an attempt to gather my feelings concerning our doomed local, national, global and ecological reality at the dawn of 2025, I’ve ended up deep in the past. I’ve been returning to some of the most moving songs I know from the 19th and early 20th centuries in an attempt to give shape to the exhaustion and grief so typical of our lives in the 21st.
.
Some of ‘em made it onto this little collection of tunes - my first real solo release - called “Songs of Doubt & Despair.” This is a bit of a surprise album, comprised of skeletal kitchen-table demos, but hey - that’s the artistic process for ya.
.
These songs come from a multitude of American music forms, from gospel and old-time balladry to the coffee shop folk of 1950s New York. All suggest an anxiety, loneliness, powerlessness or loss that - as we bear witness to the upheavals of our era - I find it hard to express in my own words.
.
Anyways, it’s on Bandcamp and YouTube. Maybe Spotify or on CD down the road if I get around to it. Listen and enjoy ✌️ share with ya friends. taken in Portsmouth, New Hampshire by @g.himsel
