A glimpse of Sunday Best: The Power & The Glory of Black Style curated by @julie_zacfilms @jasonbrandoncyrus 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾to the collaborators and the entire team @agotoronto .The exhibition traces the histories of migration, activism, self-determination, and fashion design, woven into the enduring ritual of dressing in one's “best” clothing. Art historian and arts administrator Gaëtane Verna brings decades of experience in curating, arts administration and cultural leadership.

She previously served as Executive Director of the Wexner Center for the Arts, Director and Artistic Director of The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto, and Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Musée d’art de Joliette in Quebec.

Recognised internationally for her contributions to the arts, Verna was appointed a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government.

Her insight and curatorial expertise will contribute to recognising the powerful visual stories at the heart of the 2026 Africa Soft Power Climate Change Photo Essay Prize.

Last week, BAND gathered artists, cultural workers, supporters, and friends for Dinner & Dialogue, an evening of conversation, connection, and collective investment in the future of Black arts and culture.

Hosted in partnership with Ferrotype Collective as part of their 10th anniversary celebrations, the evening featured a thoughtful conversation between Janine Gaëlle and Gaëtane Verna on the role of grassroots cultural institutions, space-making, collaboration, and what it means to build conditions for artists and communities to thrive.

The evening also marked the launch of BAND’s inaugural annual International In Dialogue series, a new program dedicated to creating space for exchange across geographies, practices, and communities. Stay tuned for more.

Throughout the evening, one idea surfaced again and again: meaningful cultural work is never built alone. It is shaped through relationships, sustained through dialogue, and made possible by people willing to invest in a future larger than themselves.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us, purchased tickets and tables, made donations, and contributed to the remarkable energy in the room. Your support helps advance BAND’s House Museum at 19 Brock Avenue, a permanent home for exhibitions, residencies, public programs, research, and community gathering.

Special thanks to Janine Gaëlle and Gaëtane Verna for their generosity and insight, to Ferrotype Collective for celebrating their 10th anniversary in support of BAND, and to our partners at Ricarda’s and Nicholas Metivier Gallery.
