Another guitar build. Well… rebuild/mod. I had this really crappy knock-off strat that I got for Christmas all the way back in forth grade and never played it. After finishing the last guitar, I had an extra neck laying around that was just too good to not have it on a body. I hated the neck on the knock off strat and decided to change it out and while I was at it, give it an intentionally butchered spray paint job. I sanded it off and used teal, hot pink, white, and black specks. Taking inspo from blink’s 2003 Untitled album cover and Van Halen’s own guitar “Frankie” that had a cut-off pick-guard. This mini project only took a couple days. They say that 80% of guitars sound like crap because of the neck and nut. After changing both of those, I must say, this thing plays better than I could’ve ever imagined. I also only installed 5 tuning pegs to make it a true punk guitar. Well, here we are! 3 Weeks later and over 100 hours of work later, we have my first made from scratch guitar.
EACH PICTURE has a different caption to take you on the journey of building this guitar➡️

I started with getting the general template and plans from Esty but after realizing that the original plans didn’t have the right measurements for the electrical kit I have, I decided to pretty much abandon the plans I truly try to build this thing from scratch, and to give myself total creative freedom over what I wanted to make.

I chose Walnut wood for the body because it would match the electronics kit well, it’s durable, and able to be routed, which is extremely important for this project. The wood itself was actually a live edge slab that was eventually supposed to become a bench but with my grandpa never getting around to it, we decided to use it for this project.

In total we made five necks and three legit attempts. My dad cut out and glued together the fifth and final neck when I was at FFA State Convention. The neck is made of white oak and is a very hard wood which is important because of string tension. After I got back from convention we spent the entire next week, cutting frets, sanding, drilling tuning peg holes, and sanding some more.

The body was smoother sailing but was still not easy. The body after cutting was 13” long and was barely able to fit in a planer. We re-routed the inner body 3 separate times and on the 3rd time we accidentally routed directly through the entire body, however we lucked out big time because the hole was located directly inline with the backplate on the back of the guitar, we were able to semi patch it up and continue with the build, in hindsight, it ended up having little to no effect on the overall sound of the guitar.

This build was one I’ve wanted to do for around a year now and last year briefly joked about, I thought making a guitar from scratch was impossible, and frankly it was, and I was extremely fortunate to have many people help me along the way.

Firstly, I have to thank my dad for all the hours you poured in beside me to make this dream of mine come to life. I would list the things you helping me with b by @gage.thommy
