We are delighted to announce the opening of a group exhibition featuring Ghanaian artists Prof. Ablade Glover, Daniel Nartey, James Mishio, Michael Gah and Emmanuel Kwaku Yaro!

'Joy Comes in the Morning' will be opening 17 October and running through to 12 November 2026.

Woven through textile and paint, the exhibition explores joy as a universal language, the golden thread that binds us amid our differences.

A story about my mother, she used to sell oranges on weekends and she always has a great smile on her face even though it was difficult, so growing up in such a joyful family shaped my thoughts. I mostly use the color or the fruit orange to represent Joy. Oranges, variously understood, have featured in human culture since ancient times. They first appear in Western art in the Arnolfini Portrait by Jan van Eyck, but they had been depicted in Chinese art centuries earlier, as in Zhao Lingrang’s Song dynasty fan painting Yellow Oranges and Green Tangerines. By the 17th century, an orangery had become an item of prestige in Europe, as seen at the Versailles Orangerie. More recently, artists such as Vincent van Gogh, John Sloan, and Henri Matisse included oranges in their paintings. #orangeart #art #orange #artwork #joy by @gahmichael

Be cautious about the waste you take out to the environment, as it affects not just human beings, but the living organisms found in the environment, especially in the ocean which is our source of life.

Christopher Moller Gallery presents “TEXTILES: A Dialogue Across Generations”, a dual exhibition by Ablade Glover and Michael Gah that unfolds cloth as a living language of Ghanaian culture. Bringing together two artists separated by more than sixty years, the exhibition traces how textiles carry history, identity and community across time.

Ablade Glover, a foundational figure of modern African art, translates the rhythms of weaving into painterly impasto, transforming markets and crowds into vibrant tapestries of collective life. Michael Gah, working with recycled fabrics from Accra’s markets, builds exuberant portraits through cutting and stitching, foregrounding sustainability, generosity and joy.

Seen together, their works form a dialogue on lineage and belonging, where pigment and cloth become parallel ways of honouring community. A shared reflection on how art, like society, is patiently built thread by thread.
