Project DEL MARene was 7 days, start to finish, and the love that was poured into her home is immeasurable. As always, I didn’t discuss anything with the client besides budget. Everything I do is 100% a surprise, even the design style/colors. Huge thank you to Marene for trusting me blindly with her forever home. 🥹🙏🏻

Her inspiring story is not mine to tell, but let’s just say she’s worked insanely hard to get to the place of finally having her dream home & she has overcome some incredibly challenging life events to get here. I’ve known her for a few years because we worked at Goldman together so getting to work with her again, except I’m wearing overalls instead of a suit this time, made my heart explode. She deserves every ounce of the good juju we left inside her walls and her reaction in reveal day brought tears to ALL of our eyes (video coming soon!).

I’m also SCREAMING EXCITED to announce I’m launching my new flooring line THIS WEEK, which I used all throughout her project. I will also be launching my wallpaper in 2 weeks (also used in this project). I’ll be posting how-to videos of both products so you can see how easy everything is to DIY and what all the colors look like! 👌🏻😮‍💨

Next I’m posting her surprise reaction to every room, before / after photos, and I’m CONSIDERING doing a ‘how I designed this’ walk through reel explaining all the design decisions. Please LET ME KNOW in the comments if that would be helpful because I’ve never done a deep dive into how I design my spaces (other than in the book I’m almost finished writing!).

Special thank you to my incredible team for pulling off a miracle & for watching the sun come up with me for 7 nights. Amazing job to all our new interns, so impressed with your hearts and hustle! I’ll tag everyone in the before/after photo post but want to give an extra massive shout out to my bff’s @pj_fetscher & @kaymarryshow for being team no-sleep with me every single night. I never thought I’d find my crazy in another person until I met you two. ILYSM

We all have ‘that space.’ You have it. She has it. They also have it. I’ve been let loose in too many homes for too many weekends to not know this with extreme certainty.

That lawless junk drawer. That closet you retrieve something from & suddenly you’re playing real-life Jenga; everything is falling & your dog is running for his life.

For me, ‘my space’ is an awkwardly small, sloped ceiling, hella chaotic storage closet under my stairs. I’ve renovated most of this 1928 historic home but never tackled this dungeon. It’s small & dark & nobody’s gonna look behind that door... and if they try I’ll tackle them first.

Converting this stairwell closet to a pantry came to me after I removed ALL of my upper kitchen cabinets & needed more storage!

The plan: Herringbone the ceiling to make the harsh slope look pretty, as opposed to inconvenient. Tile the floor to differentiate it as a pantry. Add cabinets + shelving with pretty brass details to match the kitchen. Add 3 small recessed lights to make it less dark, paint the walls white so it feels wider, add a glass arched door to access natural light & show off the space when I walk by!

Every single thing wood here was built & installed by my hero, the undefeated woodworking master @pj_fetscher . Also huge thank you to my BFF @jcdelgado2020 for drywalling & tiling, couldn’t do this without you Superman.

Ok, I shared my ‘that space’ with you... so now I have to know yours???

Don’t worry, my bff got my old closet so YES it was upcycled 👌🏻😉. And this was NOT an easy space to configure because it’s a small box with huge windows on one wall & an arched doorway on the other. But with a little (a lot) of creativity we pulled it off.☺️

Insane thank you to my wildly talented millwork team @neffliving for custom making this closet & my girl @celinamortimer who made it come to ✨life✨. And TY @pj_fetscher for your additional woodworking talents! My favorite part (that I had my heart set on from the beginning) was the floor to ceiling glass doors framed in forged brass. They turned out even better than I could have dreamt 🥹. There’s a reason I work with NEFF on all my projects… they are unapologetically the best in the business. No notes.

I’d keep writing but I kind of just want to sit & take this all in because I don’t often get to live inside of my projects. 🥹

Don’t read into the lyrics; it’s not that deep. Just love this song😂. What someone says about me behind my back is none of my business.

This is the primary bathroom in my 1928 home. Before you come for me, I’m aware the original bathroom wasn’t ‘awful.’ But it was over a decade old, functionally compromised, and didn’t feel like me or the rest of my home. It was cold, glam, and chrome. I’ve never identified less with three words.

My favorite upgrade was expanding the single door into the bathroom into a double arched door and mirroring it with an arched opening as the breezeway entrance. And the herringbone inlay I added on the step entering into the breezeway is chef’s kiss👌🏻. I love walking through these double arches every morning to start my day, especially with how the morning sun spills through the (also arched) windows facing east. I’m a sucker for an arch.

Everything here is linked on my website from tile to paint! Click the link on this post the & select ‘Shop Galey’s Home’. OR you can go old school & click the link in my bio > Shop my Projects > Shop Galey’s Home. 🫶🏻

Huge thank you to my amazing team @sdcremodelingcompany for all the tile + demo & my talented bff @pj_fetscher for all the custom millwork (dying over these arched doors!!!). Beyond grateful to have y’all on my team and in my life🥹🩷

Being named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential Creators is an honor of a lifeTIME. And being among so many creators who I deeply admire on this list honestly makes this 10x more special. Thank you @time . 🫶🏻🥹

I started creating inside of strangers’ homes after my life unexpectedly fell apart. Desperate to find myself again, I poured as much creativity into filming & editing these weekend projects as I did into the projects themselves. All forms of creating, whether renovating homes or editing on my MacBook, became my therapy. Creating saved my life.

I have immeasurable gratitude for everyone who has trusted me blindly with their home, my team who has grown into the most beautiful family imaginable, my emotional support dogs (especially Charlye🪽) & for all of you being here with me making this even possible. Thank you from the bottom and top of my perpetually healing heart.

Love you, mean it.🫶🏻🩷

Dating in 2026 is like catching a falling knife. It’s more likely to end in pain than success but we can’t use that to justify settling. I’m two years deep & the dating pool definitely has pee in it, but I’m not tagging myself out just yet. Check back in 6 months though.

To SHOP everything here (from paint colors to decor), click the link in my bio to www.galeyalixdesign.com, select “SHOP MY PROJECTS”, select project DEL MARENE II.

As for this project, this was the second phase of a home we surprised an incredibly kind, hard working soul with to finish off her dream home. We surprised her with a finished home office, guest bedroom, foyer & laundry closet this time. Marene, thank you for trusting us blindly with your beautiful home, again. It was an honor.🥹

Special thank you to the wildly talented @pj_fetscher for all the millwork, to @neffliving for the bedroom custom ceiling panels, @sdcremodelingcompany & @kaymarryshow for pouring your handy talents into so many install hours & never leaving my side, & my extraordinary install superwomen @monica_batista017 @desirewxe @kyliecerra @shannon.gunning @laurenrose12 . Love you all beyond comprehension🫶🏻🥹

I did it, finally. I officially have a design studio in my home thanks to a guest bedroom I volunteered as tribute & @minted ! I’ll have fewer guests sleeping over now but the perfect space to zoom them from😉. And I executed a vision I’ve always had for my office; a wall of floor to ceiling black and white photography. It’s equal parts edgy + elevated.

DESIGN TIP: if you keep your gallery wall photography to all B&W it gives you full control over the color palette for the rest of the room bc you aren’t fighting the colors in your photos☝🏻😏… easy way to get photos you love & not sacrifice your overall aesthetic.

I sourced all of my framed photography from @minted because they have so many options (not just the photography but the framing & matting). A designer’s dream. And now it’s in the backdrop of this designer’s zoom meetings 😌! I also get all of my personalized stationary from minted.com too. #love And bc I love y’all, I was able to get a discount for you 🩷

Code: GALEY gets you 20% off stationery+gifts, 15% off art

Brb, going to sit in my new studio & pretend I’m doing something. Anything.

Townhomes are notorious for this open stairwell no-man(or woman)’s land in the middle of their foyer. The great news is that every empty space (☝🏻even with an angled ceiling) = major opportunity!

In this particular ‘opportunity’ I was more focused on making it aesthetically beautiful & cozying up her foyer than I was on making it functional. That said, I knew I could still create hidden shoe & suitcase storage for her and her guests (*I never like seeing shoes or luggage in foyers!!) behind the built-out wall, so it became both beautiful AND functional. Not to mention, these built in shelves added storage, a place to drop her keys, and soft mood lighting to create a cozy & calming vibe at night.

As always, everything seen here from the wall strips to the decor is linked on my website! Click LINK in BIO, select ‘Shop my Projects’ then select ‘Project Del Marene 2.’ Love you, mean it!!!

I love doing homes in phases because it means I get to keep coming back🥹. The best part is getting to watch their kids grow up & see how they are living in the spaces I’ve already created. It’s the most rewarding feeling in the world.

This is phase II of project Hunter’s Home (one of the first projects I ever did!). Their little girl Hunter now has 2 new siblings so I should consider changing the project name, but I digress.

They wanted me to makeover their primary bedroom and convert the sunroom attached to it (which had been a nursery) into an office for her. She’s a nurse (and mom of 3!) and studying for a lot of exams so it made sense to give her a room of her own! I wanted to make it elegant + cozy but still professional.

I’ll be explaining step by step how I installed the textured wall in my new ‘how to design’ coffee table book (along with so many other how-to’s!). The still photos of these rooms will be posted later this week along with links to EVERY item you see. It will be on my website under project ‘Hunter’s Home’ (link in bio). I’ll of course be posting this adorable family’s reactions too 🫶🏻🥰!

As always thank you to my amazing team for working so late & with so much heart to pull this one off in time! Appreciate you so much @kaymarryshow @pj_fetscher @jcdelgado2020 @kyliecerra !!!!

My TOP 3 best decisions here:
1.Using @behrpaint (☝🏻Marquee to be precise) in color ‘black’ from @homedepot for the laundry doors. It only took 1 coat & I had the smoothest finish I’ve ever seen after painting directly on raw wood. It’s also the purest black (trust, I searched everywhere) bc it doesn’t have any blue/purple undertones (usually the problem).
2. Replacing her solid doors with half glass doors. The closed bottom half of the doors strategically hides her appliances while the glass top half allows the tile and millwork to shine through and elevate her entire hallway.✨
3. Running tile backsplash not just over the counter but INSIDE the vertical glass cabinets. This created a uniquely custom look in an otherwise unassuming space!😌

As always, I will have everything from the BEHR paint colors to the tile and decor linked on my website for you! Click the link in my bio > Shop My Projects > Project DelMarene 2. I’ll be sharing the rest of her surprise renovation with more reels coming soon! PLEASE lmk in the COMMENTS if you’d like to see her office, bedroom or foyer next!
