Today at 5 p.m., join us, the Center for Native Futures (@centernativefutures), and the UIC Native American Support Program (@uicnasp) at 56 W. Adams St. for an artist talk with artist Dakota Mace (@dmaceart).

Mace’s lecture expands on her interdisciplinary practice and the influence of her Diné heritage and community. In an interview with the Wisconsin Academy of Arts and Sciences, Mace says: β€œThere are a lot of aspects of my work that are just for the people. Especially the current work that I’m creatingβ€”it’s for my community and for my people. It’s a big part of our culture, that we are individuals, but we make up this bigger identity all together. And that’s also why I work in multiples. Each print is unique. They’re always different. So we have similar stories, and in the designs we use, we’re all connected to one another. And all of our stories together are our larger identity and culture, much like the stars are part of the larger universe.”

The lecture concludes at 6 p.m. and is followed by a reception with light refreshments.
