A very special opening reception last night 🐚🪡🧵🌼🐌 for @chicagotextilecenter and an artist talk with @hopeless_hope . So inspiring to hear from Hope about the importance of cultivating art practices and spaces that allow room for experimentation, slowness, expression, and imperfection rather than the hustle, presentation, and perfection that often feels demanded.

Thank you to every single artist who contributed your beautiful, thoughtful work and every volunteer who made the night so welcoming and smooth- it’s a huge labor of love to turn this space into an art gallery and host public events here for the sake of creativity and connection, and we hope all who came through the event left feeling that and feeling inspired!!! ❤️‍🔥 taken in St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Logan Square by @gallerywrightwood

Our monthly Mending Club is meeting next Sun from 5-8pm! We are thrilled to be showing 36 textile artists from around Chicago presenting work on the theme of Sustainable Communities, curated by @chicagotextilecenter Please join us for the opening reception on Friday, October 9th, with an artist talk from the incredible Hope Wang! @hopeless_hope

Hope Wang is the founder and co-director of LMRM “loom room” @lmrm_chicago , has exhibited her work nationally, and is the recipient of multiple awards. During her address, she will speak on the theme “Sustainable Communities”, drawing on her own creative practice, engage in a facilitated conversation, and answer audience questions.

We are eager to see all the artwork in conversation together and invite you to meet the artists and others in the textile and craft community of Chicago! The night will run from 6-9pm, have light snacks and drinks, and is free for all to attend. RSVP at the link in our b!o to receive reminders and arrival instructions, or just join us at the gallery on opening night!

We are thrilled to announce our Chicago Textile Fair Keynote Speaker for Friday, October 9th: Hope Wang! @hopeless_hope

Hope Wang is the incredibly successful and inspirational founder and co-director of LMRM "loom room" @lmrm_chicago, has exhibited her work nationally, as well as being the recipient of multiple awards.

A new GW newsletter went out today, here’s some of what we had to say 📝🧡 around here we feel strongly about the power and importance of practicing creativity. It’s not just a privilege some of us should get to do if we happen to have the extra time or funds to access it, it’s a valuable part of human nature that we all deserve to explore, cultivate, and express!!! Less AI algorithms, more using your hands to make something messy, imperfect, real, human!!!

🧶CALLING U 4 a CRAFT NIGHT✂️Join us for some guided creativity as we create *reusable decorations from reclaimed materials and LOVE* for holiday parties at South Loop Community Table, a weekly dinner party with people experiencing housing and food insecurity 🧡 you may remember we fundraised for this group through our Sad Karaoke event at the beginning of this year!!

Snack and all supplies provided ✨🖇️🎨, just bring yourself and get ready to get creative with guided instructions for getting crafty!! You and all your friends are invited! We will send out a list to those RSVP-ed of recycled supplies you can bring, like glass jars and scrap fabric, but it’s not required to contribute, just an opportunity to recycle!!

You can RSVP through the Partiful link in @gallerywrightwood ‘s bio to get texted arrival details and recycling instructions, but RSVP is not required to attend.

August mending club sign ups have lots of room still, sign up in @gallerywrightwood b!o! Also, our flier is very ✨girlie pop🎀 but please know men and mascs of all kinds are very welcome and valued at mending club!!! ❤️‍🔥

PLUS- directly before mending club this month, we have a workshop from @made.by.lauren.b that has some spots left open too! You can bring your machine for the class and then stay for mending club with your machine if you’d like- for a Sunday full of sewing, learning, mending, socializing! 🧵🪡 Join us!
