POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The Children, The Houseguest, and Jazz had twists and turns of the phrase that carried me through the week. Jazz was so good, too good maybe? It had me bawling at least three times.

The only book that deserves any side eye is the one from Jeaniene Frost. My ARC read of Euphorics was the perfect way to process big emotions and the new cycle via a YA story. Beloved is a ghost story that made me sob and has a reveal that left me feeling haunted. Keeping in on the spooky and mysterious theme, I am enjoying the ATX book club pick and working on another page turner: The Children. #somelooks #somebooks #looksandbooks #whatireadinaweek taken in Austin, Texas by @gangstabot

Of the books I read last week, the only I had to stop was Beloved. Toni Morrison’s writing is too good and with the depressing news that is America, I needed some fantasy and horror to make up for reality? Anyway don’t be surprised to see Beloved make an appearance next week.

Amazing week of reads, it would be hard to pick my fav but it is Big Swiss and no I will not give my sister her copy of the book back, it is mine now! Oh and the Lives of Ants was perfect timing, I learned so much like not to feel bad about destroying the little invaders trying to make it into my kitchen and bathroom, they are the many and we are the few 😭.

Okay so the only book I haven’t made progress on yet really is The Good Demon and that’s because I left the house and did fun book club things! Everything else though was a treat to read for different reasons, with Make Believe (an essay on why writing for children is important) being maybe my fav of the bunch since it made me both laugh and cry and no I don’t think it’s because I am an emotional weirdo…

A few quick reads, all of which were amazing in their own right. Excluding the Maya Angelou poems, if there was any connecting themes, it would be that humans are messy (in the iconography people gravitate towards regardless of the history and hurt that surrounds it, in love, in giving up wars, and in their climb up the social ladder).

I have hit the red section of my closet and I have done some reading. Second to last pic is all the books I made my sister off load onto me. Now that her summer internship is over and she is back to law school, she will have no time to read for fun 😈 so onto my tbr shelf they go! taken in Austin, Texas by @gangstabot

Work and life has been sucking up my time, but at least the sci-fi/fantasy reads have been amazing. Jeff Vandermeer has my fealty. Did you know that in 2027 there will be a fifth book added to the Southern Reach series, Abdication? Must. Read.

After months of lurking I finally joined in on the current read for The ATX Book Club - Taiwan Travelogue. It was amazing. Honestly, this entire week has been filled with the best reads.

Started with the autobiography of a 15th century Catholic mystic and ended with a read published last year that is an anthropological comparison of gang violence in Colombia to police brutality in the United States and how victims infect their communities and their slayers with their death.
Heavy week filled with the best reads.
