POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We finished The Piano Teacher and the reviews were quite mixed… made for a perfect book club discussion. Some of us loved it, some not so much.

Review by @calstar: “This book was not for me. The subject matter/ story is bonkers but I can do bonkers. I think the combo of the writing style and the WAY the story was told that turned me all the way off. The story is that of a sexually frustrated, emotionally stunted, adult piano teacher, living with her obsessive, controlling mother in 80’s Vienna. She develops a mutual fascination with a young male student. The story is dark and messy. The characters are deeply flawed and cruel. I think one of the things I disliked about the book most was that it’s incessantly descriptive yet still felt superficial to me. The characters’ inner monologues are plumbed constantly and repetitively but i tound them to be boring and obvious. I think the book was supposed to be shocking. The story definitely takes some uncomfortable turns but the point seemed to be just pounding the cynical disgust with humanity the author feels into the reader. For a book with such a salacious plot, it was deadly dull. I slogged through it.”

Forever blown away by the warm welcome and loving energy whenever I step into birdhousebooksatx 🩵 We air-fried s’mores and talked about Ariel’s summer at Camp Juniper, as written in my latest adventure verse novel, The Final Diadem ⛺️ It’s so fun getting to share more about the details of the story with friends and new readers, and hear about their experience with this story, especially with it being a hi-lo verse novel 📚 Can’t wait to see everyone again in another six months 😉🦖🌟📚 #birdhousebooksatx #bookclub #texasbookstagrammer #texasbookstores #texasbookclub

And may they have a less dramatic marriage than the song. Which was requested and played at the wedding of course, since he has heard it all his life. It was a beautiful celebration and I hope they have a happy and healthy life together. #vacaymode #weddingseason

Happy Birthday to this charming man and fellow smiths fan. We are so similar at times that it is creepy, which is all I ever wanted.

Angry baby boy, with big ass feet made it into our world early this morning! Meet Ashlin J.C. Whitaker, weighing 6 pounds 7 ounces and a little over 19 inches. Though the c-section was not planned, he is fine and apparently was just trying to make a dramatic entrance.
