As we start a new year, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and Garden Girl. It is something I realized I never really took the time to do. I simply put myself out here on the internet with my practice, and I am deeply grateful for the support, encouragement, connections, and clients that have found me along the way. Garden Girl was born from a lifelong love of flowers, rooted in spending 17 years of my life in East Africa. Growing up, playing in the garden was an everyday ritual. Making imaginary fae altars, building worlds, and letting curiosity lead. As I grew older, flowers continued to carry emotional weight, and I formed a deep belief that flowers are magic. The brand is a product of taking a chance, letting my inner child play, and trusting my passion. After years of building a career, I found myself missing creative play, something that has always driven me. In June, I attended floral design school @madridflowerschool after working with flowers part time for a while. I chose to vlog my entire experience, allowing myself to be seen online in a way I never had before. The response deeply moved me and gave confidence to the little Anaïs who once lacked it, and reassurance to the burnt out adult Anaïs who needed it most. Since launching my business in June, I have freelanced, worked with brands, designed florals for a wedding, participated in markets, and continued learning as I go. I am endlessly grateful to everyone who has been a part of my story so far and for those who continuously provide opportunity for growth. Flowers are not just flowers. They are magic. They spark emotion, highlight colour, invite play, create community, and evoke memory and nostalgia. Garden Girl is an ode to that magic. A reminder to protect whimsy, live colourfully, and find beauty in intentional but surprising ways. To anyone on a similar path or feeling the pull to dive into florals, know that you are on the right track. I will accept you, just as you have done to me. Welcome to my garden. Turns out artichokes have a whole other life. The part we eat is actually the immature flower head. If you leave it to bloom it turns into this incredible thistle like flower & if you pair it with a vibrant red, a beautiful color combination is made. Nature is weird.
