The ideas behind Domino by @garethinkster

My new EP is out today. It’s called You Are Not Young Start Walking, and it consists of four new songs. I’ll be giving a more in-depth backstory for each in the coming days, but for now I’ll just say that I worked very hard on it, feel proud of it, and really hope you’ll connect with it in some way.

I’m very grateful to some of the other musicians who pitched in. On Domino, Robinson Inkster (@robinsonretskni )played bass, Scott Orr (@scott.orr )played roto toms, and Jesse Bout (@boutjesse ) provided the cymbal swells while I was up north and far from a cymbals. On You Are Not Young Start Walking, Chris Altmann (@themysticfinger ) played the haunting dobro at the end, and on A Few tomorrows Murray Heaton (@murrayheaton ) ripped the baritone and tenor saxes. The rest was me.

It was mastered by Jon from @transparent_mastering

Special thanks to @natewall for letting me look after his drums while he moves to and now lives in a different province. They’re the kit you hear on the EP.

Thanks, also, to the @provpeacecafe for letting me turn the window table into my de facto office while I did the prep for the last several weeks in the run up to this release.

By all means, let me know if there’s anything about it that you particularly appreciate, or if you have any questions or what not. This is, after all, how I’m trying to reach out to you. by @garethinkster

New music soon

This is a teaser of Domino, the first rack on the upcoming release. I recorded this two nights ago on the steps of the Janet Head Lighthouse on Manitoulin, where my great-great-great-uncle was the keeper, once upon a time. taken in Manitoulin Island by @garethinkster
